Hello, it's already weekend hivers!
What a pleasure to get out of the routine of the week and walk around an open-air market! Yes, it's Saturday and there is a market in the most important square of the town. It is a sensorial plan for a Saturday morning, a cool and different way to start our weekend.
A large open-air market, all the stalls flood the square on all sides, around the municipal market, and also enter some more streets... to get lost among so many things, colors, smells and shouts of the merchants announcing their offers and its star products of the day.
It is a blow to the senses, it is another reality, a journey through time. Get out of the cold supermarkets with organized aisles and artificial light, all mechanized, to go to stalls where the merchandise or the real food is exposed to nature, without so much plastic packaging, but in heaps.
There is abundance and a lot of color, a variety of fruits and vegetables, almost everything you want and also at a very good price. This year I have been able to eat sweet and spectacular cherries at 1 euro per kilo. And it is that many of the products are sold in kilos, in euros. They tell you to take more because it is cheaper and they also give you a few more pieces, they give you to try a piece of peach that they cut to entertain their customers who crowd the bank without any order.
Sometimes it's a chaos, many people in front and not knowing when it's your turn to order, you look at the whole stuff, how can you not buy seasonal figs now for one euro per kilo? So you have to ask the people next door: “who is the last one?” sometimes almost screaming! Talking to other people we don't know... it still happens, in a lifelong market.
It's quite hot and there are a lot of people, we pass under awnings that they put up because at certain times the sun is relentless. We look everywhere, because everywhere there are things to look at.
The spontaneity, the hubbub, not knowing which way to go, left or right? Do we want tomatoes, asparagus, nectarines or do we go to the clothing area? Because later on the esplanade continues and there the clothing stalls, summer dresses, swimsuits, beach bags, and many other things are arranged. Of everything. It's like a deconstructed mall.
Even in one corner we are surprised by a stall selling churros, some other different cold meats, pickles and olives, oil or honey and herbs. And also plants, I'll tell you another day about the curious and colorful plant that I bought today. There is everything. Because also if we want meat or fish we can go inside, to the municipal market building itself (I'll leave that for another day).
And I did not take many other photos, next time, today in the end I was carrying many things and it was crowded some areas and too hot. We will have time, there are many other Saturday mornings!
In the end, without realizing it, with a few euros, we take more than 5 kilos of food, real food, healthy, full of vitamins, directly from people who are not going to earn millions, but who earn a decent living, and who in short, thanks to them we can eat, and enjoy watching and deciding on the spot what we are going to cook today. There is nothing thought, it is just to arrive and be inspired...
Seasonal food, the one that may not always look perfect with waxes and chemical products but that has flavor, which is what the nearby countryside now provides, not the one that travels from another continent in cold storage. It is real food in a real market, in a market of all life.
Thanks for reading! Have a delicious, tasty and colorful day.

It is good that everything is being sold fresh in this market and the price is not expensive. On the contrary, the storm of inflation in our village market is troubling people day by day. We can see the fruits from a distance but cannot eat them because they are expensive. Nice blog dear!
Oh I understand many people are saying that food now is more expensive, fruit in supermarket is much more expensive but here still in those markets prices are somehow normal... less intermediaries and less earnings but humble people are selling then at better prices. Hope this mad economy system changes for good. Take care and thanks a lot!
I totally agree with you @duvinca these small farmers markets offer a variety of fresh products and incomparable quality.
At the moment of eating, the origin of the food and the quality is so evident that it makes you think of never going back to the big supermarkets again.
Besides the beauty they transmit with all their natural colors and irregular shapes, so natural that makes me think about the beauty of imperfections, is that this is our world, we do not need advertising wrappers to get the best.
Surely you will enjoy a lot this weekend with that purchase, bon appetit!
Thanks a lot dear @ninaeatshere we should support small farmers and people who sell directly fresh products and not going always to the big supermarkets as a habitude. We deserve quality products from the closest earth, our earth is rich and there is more abundance that shelves in a store. Let's enjoy and take advantage of these open places before they can't be anymore.
Gracias, feliz fin de semana. (Thanks, happy weekend!)
