Weekend engagement #196 inspire

How do you inspire others and why?

It’s a message that has lasted Millenia and will last beyond your time and mine. Full of wisdom and guidance on living the best human life. Of course I’m speaking about the Bible and whether you believe it to be God’s word or just a collection of stories, there is no questioning the extent of its impact on humanity.

Personally I believe the Bible is God’s word and if God had a message to communicate to people - that’s reason enough for me to play my part in inspiring them.

The skillset and lack of maturity I carry, means my best audience to inspire are children.

Now you know WHY I Inspire kids to engage with the teachings of the Bible, we can have fun looking at the HOW.

My job as a communicator of the gospel message is to interpret the Bible’s meaning and present that in a way my audience can understand.

We are currently using a glow theme to let kids know the way they live may look different to those around them. The kids love the theme and this helps them engage with the story. Standing up there preaching at them for 40 minutes isn’t helping anyone, but playing glow bottle flip and relating it to the story of Jesus flipping tables in the temple sticks in their minds. It becomes and object lesson and next time they play bottle flip they will remember Jesus also flipped things.

We also have to link the story with the theme and teaching. So in this case Jesus flipped tables because His view on the purpose of the temple was different to those around Him. He was like a light to those in the dark around him, hence Glow. Hopefully I am inspiring kids to stand up for what they believe is right.

Sometimes I use well known characters to gain or keep kids attention and use them to act out a bible story. Then have a short teaching of how that story can inspire kids to live a better life today.

I remember when we were kids, we used to attend a Daily Vacation Bible School (DVBS). Our teachers would use puppets to give life to characters they are discussing to us. And we loved it and we always looked forward to the DVBS.
Using glow sticks are innovative. I'm sure the kids will always remember the teachings.
