WEEKEND Meeting With Private Bougainvillea Plant Collector

Last weekend I was invited to a friend's house. At first, I was hesitant, for I didn't know the exact location of their place, but he insisted. Just the code of home with the color white gate and full of different blooms and varieties of bougainvillea plants. I thought I would be lost, but things happened, and I was mesmerized by how beautiful their home was. We had been friends for a long time, started high school, and then came college apart, for he studied far from our province, but it was my first time having myself in their ancestral home. The rich kid always does. He posted the story on his social media, and I reacted, then came the message me privately, inviting me for lunch last Sunday. He changes a lot, and I meant we changed.

Differ connections, my uncle; my mother's older brother, and his auntie; his father's sister, married but now residing in Canada, so somehow my family and his already knew each other. That's why they welcomed me the way they held family-related ventures. I valued their privacy, but I could not resist smiles as I looked at the flower collections, and also obviously, I am not the first one who shows the reactions. So his father was the one who started talking about the history and of the beautiful private collection of the bougainvillea.

His father asked me how old I was now; then, we talked casually. I said I was 23, and he laughed. 'Do you know that plant is much older than you, he said. I was enchanted to see an old bougainvillea plant; back in that year, as I was still so young and innocent, collecting this plant varies from aging, and the thickness of stems is worth a lot. It costs money to venture into this kind of collection. Also, looking at the present varieties, some of these are rare.

Behind those beautiful and colorful flowers, there was something in my childhood memories I could not erase. "How do you spell the word bougainvillea" the word alone represents the flowers but also our early education scheme. Back in Elementary, I was the typical kind of pupil who always had low scores. Funny, but I was not good at spelling and grammar, so my transcript of record in my early education filled only with 70 lines of grades. So whenever I see bougainvillea, I remember my teacher always scolded me for being dumb in spelling English subjects. It's been years passed. Still, the memories and the moment I heard and saw all my classmates laugh and bullied for not knowing the bougainvillea spelling make me nervous until now, and I don't know. Still, that was the first humiliation for not learning the spelling of the word bougainvillea.

The bougainvillea collections:

Different varieties and colors of petals are all over their home, back and front. Some seedlings are grown, and others are well-established and are starting to bloom. I loved it; I wanted to have this stuff in our home, but not now.

It was well maintained and lovely to see that his mother and father had the same vibe regarding the flowers they were growing. I imagined having the same partner who could understand and support me and, most importantly, have the same view as the hubbies I chose.

I also see artificial propagation and style in their collections. One bougainvillea plant contains different colors of flowers, and I asked who made the grafting. Grafting is when one plant becomes a scion, and the other becomes a rootstock. In the bougainvillea they display, they did incredible bark grafting filled with different kinds and varieties of bougainvillea, genius ideas.

It adds the beauty of grafted plants and the price it is worth, double or triple that of typical bougainvillea plants. The added rarity of the specimen indeed costs a lot, and I cannot afford it.

I loved talking to plant collectors, for I am also one of them. I want to have hibiscus or gumamela collections in my home. I was attracted to beautiful flowers, that's why my professiin lineine with plants. They also called e green thumb, for plants I grew stood and bloomed in no time.

Not only bougainvillea also they have a collection of orchids displays. Sadly it's not their time to bloom yet, but they said maybe in the following days, they will apply flowering growth hormone to the orchid. If there was a chance, I could revisit and witness the flowers of orchids.

Just like the bougainvillea plant and the satisfaction they gave somehow, I understand the feeling of having a collection at home. From a tired and busy day going home, there was a colorful garden they saw as magnificent.

OMG! I would absolutely LOVE to visit your friend’s garden full of Bougainvilleas and the greenhouse full of orchids. I’d be in heaven there 😍

Exactly, the place is awesome. I wished to stay more days there especially the morning vibe uwu, but nah... Haha somehow they were private persons. 😂

What does uwu mean? I hear that a lot, but I don’t really know what it means 😂

When you said that you had hard time spelling out the word bougainvillea. I tested myself if i can spell it right. Haha..you are absolutely correct!
Spelling it out is so hard...

Haha back in my elementary teacher definition of Smart kids is the English skills yet we were in public school, only those who is known as smart could be focused on for the "school spelling and quiz competition" 💔

Sa totoo lang hindi ko pa rin ma-ispell ng tama ang bougainvillea. Kaya copy-paste na lang. hahahaha

Andaming variety ah. For sure nagkakaroon na ng mga hybrid dyan.
Yung iba parang bonsai tingnan.

Ay oo napansin ko din na May petals with different color na, hybrid na because of polinators siguro yun.

Woahhh 😍😍😍 I'm fascinated with bougainvillea and visiting places like that is my happy place. Just looking at them blooming in different varieties and colors is quite stress-relieving.

Too bad knowing what resonates in your head is the experience of not-so-good memory of your elementary days whenever you see a bougainvillea😢. These flowers bloom beautifully, I wish the thorn that it has caused your younger self would be replaced with its stunning bloom in your heart today. ❤

fascinated with bougainvillea and visiting places

Same feeling the first time I entered their home, uwu. Soon as I cameback I will bring my own scissors haha.

Wow! That's really a lot. I always appreciate people who loves caring flowers, I always appreciate seeing flowers bloom but honestly I am not fond of planting flowers because my always reason, I wanted to plant vegetables than flowers where I can have something to harvest and eat in due time.

Hopefully makakahanap ka Rin Ng babae na may the same interest Sayo.

Uwu naman, maybe motherhood and adulting made you that decision ate jean hehe, siguro kapag may binubuhay din ako that will be the same feelings hehe.

Hehehe Ewan kahit dalaga pa Ako at nagstay sa boarding house nako iilan lang Ang flowers na Makita mo. What I planted is malunggay, kamote tops, alugbati and sibuyas dahon hahaha. Umalis na Ako soon but until now andoon pa Ang malunggay and neighbors still enjoying it.

Haha... I was one of those struggling with the spelling of this flower haha

Uwu salamat google for everything nalang muna haha.

How nice, I love this view, the varying colors made it so beautiful, sana makapag-tanim din ako ng ganyan. Ang ganda talaga.

Opo grabe mas lalo sa personal ang gaganda talaga nila, and they said hindi daw nawawalan ng bulaklak, maybe the weather and space condition din kasi.

All thanks to my retired grandma, for she was a teacher who taught me how to spell and write clearly when I was at the age of 5. Though it wasn´t fun then but I enjoyed those moments with her.
I love those bougainvillaea plants and those flowers add beauty everywhere too. So fascinating.

Oww lucky you have someone whom teach you, maybe thats one of the reason why you blog well, lol. Honestly english is my third language, so not that easy learning.

Ganda ng view, lalo na yung first picture uploaded. It gives the vibe na yayamanin talaga. Bonsai pa sya so lakas talaga maka RK.

The spelling of bougainvillea ( never had to know it nor even bother with it) umabot lang ako sa bongga mali pa hahah.

Shez, sana oll mayaman talaga. Kasi talagang iba mga plants nila some rare varities pa, and 2000 ang mahal eh.

Nakakalito eh. Dati ginagamit lang namin yan pang ulam sa lutu-lutuan pag naglalaro kami dati hehe. At yung teacher mo di dapat ganun ang practice. Di matututo ang studyante kung papagalitan nya. Dapat icorrect ang wrong spelling.

These flowers are beautiful. ☺️
I have only seen few colors of bougainvillea.
Thanks for sharing this. My eyes are impressed with it's variety of colors. ☺️
