I went to the range today to try a new rifle my Son just bought at the big gun show! It worked well before I slicked it up a little, but now it's a sweet toy! I taught him well, LOL....
Some things are timeless, and the 'ought six' is one of them! I have a lot of old Mauser type actions, but none, including the original K-98; compares favorably. The 06 was the first boat tailed round, that was originally tapered in the rear; to aid mass production. Before we knew what BC was, but it was a game changer!
You'll have to post pictures! I love to see the look on a new shooter, as they begin to learn and enjoy. A 303 is a great training rifle, and a solid firearm!
It is interesting that a lot of ballistics grew from a change, intended to increase production volumes!
The 50 BMG is simply a 30-06, up sized to 50 caliber...and yes, I do want one, LOL. I have plans here for machining one from steel stock.
My Son enjoyed my wheelgun so much yesterday, that he decided he need one too...So I raised him right!
ROFLOL, I was pulling for you....

It's nice to shoot these old guns sometimes right?

I'm taking a lad [12 year old son of a Hive user] this Saturday to shoot some handguns and he wants to shoot my 1918 SMLE .303 so that'll happen too.
Indeed...So many think it's just blasting rounds down range but so much has happened along the way to modern firearms, projectiles and powder.
