Weekend-engagement week 30 wrap up: Musical musings

in Weekend Experiences4 years ago (edited)

Hey hiver's a happy Monday to you all! Some of y'all are still on holidays and some are probably back to work already, but no matter what's going on in your world I wish you a great day and week ahead! Having a good one will be better than a bad one, trust me.

I'm coming at you from the river where Faith and I have come to do some kayaking today. We're staying overnight and have a little more yakking and some hiking planned for tomorrow and then we'll hightail-it home again, a couple hours away.

We felt we needed a break from all the house moving and stuff so...Here we are. I feel like whinging about my aching shoulders but I'll not, they were earned the legit way, yakking on the river! We've just showered, separately unfortunately, and are heading to the pub for a meal and a brew...Well, I'll be having the beer, Faith doesn't drink alcohol.

Anyway, it's time to give some hive away and to thank some sponsors. So, let's get into it.

Week 30 topic

This week I asked you to tell us about music that moved you or helped you through 2020, or to write a comment with a message to 2020!

I'd like to thank all of you who joined in, especially those who stayed around to comment on others and engage back and forth. Well done!

You can take a look at the post and the almost 300 comments here.

100 hive to give out

Thanks to this weeks sponsors @dandays, @bigtom13 and @tarazkp, they have all added a little hive this other dude's hive, some guy called @galenkp, so that we have a little to give away. I'm going to add in an extra 40 hive over my usual sum this week so there's a total of 100 hive being handed out - In fact, 12.5 hive has already been transferred to each of the following accounts!

Congratulations to

@santigs, @chocolatescorpi, @trangbaby, @lesmann, @mawit07, @manujune, @sagesigma and @stevenson7.

I'll have a new topic out for this week so look out out on my post feed if you're interested.

Right now I'm off to the pub with Faith who, most annoyingly, is looking over my shoulder as I type this trying to hurry me up...And yes, I just got a smack on the back of the head for writing this paragraph. Well deserved though I think. 😆

I better go, I can hear that seafood basket calling my name...Or maybe a nice rib-eye steak...Erm, lasagne...Mixed grill? So many choices, I might have to comtemplate them over my (first) Great Northern beer and then have a second once I've decided and got my meal...It's anything could happen Monday! 😃

I hope y'all have a great week and remember to stay humble and kind because the alterative, egotistical and cruel, won't get you too far in life. 😉

Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default - Tomorrow isn't promised.

Be well

At least one of you should be awake - I had a horrible experience of me and my wife drinking some Cannabis, thankfully kids were around and rescued us 😁

Lol, oh yes, fortunately your kids were around...Drinking cannabis doesn't like the best thing to do.

I'm not a big drinker; Just one, maybe two. I might have a little more if there's others around but when it's just Faith and I never more than two. I like having my faculties in top working order. One never knows when one will need them.

Man, what a great way to start the week! I'd love to be there with you two kayaking!
Thank you for the present and hope you have a great day in nature.

We had a great day exploring the estuaries along the river and just floating about. We took some lunch with us, lashed our yaks together and floated around eating and chatting. It was nice. We always go upriver first too so that if we get fired we can just float back to camp. Smart huh? 🙂

It was a nice day, and whilst reasonably strenuous we enjoyed it a lot. It made a great change from all the moving house stuff.

We've just walked to the pub and Faith is ordering drinks...A meal, some dessert and then home (camp) for an early night I think...Then an early start tomorrow, 5:30am, so we're on the river for sunrise. Sounds like a good plan huh?

I'd yak with ya anyday mate. Maybe someday huh? ✅

Wow, freakin awesome thanks there @galenkp @bigtom13 @tarazkp and @dandays for sponsoring this event!

Raising a Turkey and coke to you right now! Cheers guys! Nice one! 😃

Enjoys the hols. (seafood basket- means you can drink more beer cause it doesn't fill you up as much as a mixed grill...)

You're welcome, thanks for joining in and your engagement. I hope to see you back.

Yep definitely!

Don't spend it all in one place @chocolatescorpi. See you next week!

Question: Is your handle short for chocolate scorpion?

What a great way to start the week! Your head is made of steel so a smack from Faith is like a feather in the wind hahha. I hope your shoulder is better, I think that it's great you took time off to forget about the stressful house moving
!ENGAGE 20

Lol, made of wood sometimes, thick as a brick at others...But it's all me, for better or worse.

Shoulder is ok, still pains me a bit and I don't have full movement but it's getting there. I'm tough, and will endure. Thanks for asking.

Never a truer word spoken. I missed the part about the music! This year for me I have been jamming Maroon 5 - Memories. I'm not sure if its because I am still alive when many of the people I went to school with are not. Or the fact I'm getting closer to a mid life crisis with kids and feeling my life is over.

All it feels like is work, kids, work, kids, bills, broke and never feel like I can get anywhere.

Mid life crisis mate...😂 Don't succumb!

It's a grind man, life...But you gotta keep grinding, there's only one other option and it's not a very good one. Your life isn't over yet so when you're feeling like it is, a little down in the dumps, get the fuck up and keep walking. Staying down sucks ass. So, get up and walk...You'll get somewhere.

I remember that post-it-note you received from a random stranger...It's all that needs saying sometimes.

Thank you.

Still on the cupboard. 👍🏿

...And reminding you everyday that to be humble and kind is the righteous path I'm sure.

That's pretty awesome and thank you for sharing it with me.

Positive news today. We have sold our house for what we need and the market bottom. Now we need to find a rental and start building.

Getting there, I hit up the back yard today after work. Needed to keep my mind off things. Mrs reckons I should get shitty more often hahahaha

Hopefully good things to come this year though.

I hope things come good for you man. I mean, we're all faced with tough times in our lives; What counts is what we do when they arrive. Just keep moving forward, keep doing the things that keep you and your family strong and it'll all come together. ☝️

I really don't have it that bad and can't complain, just struggling with adulting. Stuck at the moment as COVID completely almost ruined us.

In short I drew on equity of current home to buy house and land further out. All was good had approval. Then right before title COVID hit, preapproval ran out. Went to reapply after paying deposits. Bank then said they couldn't loan the cash. (I put down 80k)

Scrambled to find a lender, got one. Land title was delayed due to COVID. finally titles for real, Bank also says new changes can't fund the whole thing. They covered the land, I lost 40k on build deposit. (Currently taking action due to COVID not my fault)

Now I'm stuck with paying for land, current unit and can't build.

Trying to sell the unit, all I'm asking is 440k which is lower end of the market and what we need to cover deposit for the build. But everyone is under paying using COVID as an excuse.

House is too small for us atm and just bleeding cash with the struggle of paying 2 mortgages.

My current unit value is 460k to 480k literally an older one sold before COVID at 470k and many new ones with less land and shared drive ways going for more.

But like I said, I'm not in a bad position. We'll get there.

I recall the land purchase thing and that that there were issues with the loan. It sucks and sometimes the timing of things is diabolical, clearly in your case it is. (Covid etc.)

Here in Adelaide things are selling well, good prices and reasonably quickly. I was under the impression that was the case elsewhere but clearly in Melbourne it's not. I guess the negativity of the second lockdown and the ramifications of it have dented confidence. I'm in the industry here but that doesn't mean I know about other States and so I could be wrong. Just surmising.

All I can say is to ask the sales agent for recent sales data of similar properties in and around your suburb. RPdata (core logic) will be able to demonstrate what's sold recently, last three months, and that's what's most relevant. It seems you're not asking an exorbitant price but the market dictates and with little or no action on yours there's a reason why. It is important to know that reason as it may be something you can work around. Your agent should be doing this stuff, not just sitting back...They need to be proactive.

The market is always going to lowball, it's what they do, and then the agent negotiates. The problem comes when no one is there to offer. I don't know the situation but try something different: Change the photos order on realestate.com.au, change the text and give it a new look. Change the price too...For instance, if you're asking $440,000 flat make it $439,950-$449,950 or some such thing...A little bit over and little but under what you really want. It shows movement, that you're willing to work with the market, and may draw in buyers. That, with a refresh on the appearance, may help.

Remember, the marketing price is about drawing people there, that's all. The selling price is negotiable but the sales person needs someone there to negotiate with to get the ball rolling. I'd never ask a person to change their acceptance price, just the marketing price.

It's difficult for me to say (help) much without knowing all the ins a s outs of it, but have a think about the above, if you haven't already.

Good luck and all the best.

Yeah we relisted from 420k - 460k to 440k - 460k.

I think the main issue is there aren't many buyers. Same reason why we are moving a little further out. It's cheaper. It's about Location. End result we stick it out for another year, grow equity, pay down debt and then rent this place out as an investment property.

Ok, seems like you've got a handle on it. I hope it all falls into place and you folks can get on with life.

Positive today, we sold out house for the 440k. Now off to rent and to start building

You're doin that thing again. Where you're really sweet and cute and make me question leaving a sarcastic response which is highly questionable.

Sweet..yes I am 😄
Kute...yea a little 😊
Thanks for your kind words man. 😍
🤣🤣 Seems I'm doing same things everytime ..It's so boring, honestly I want to learn how to write sarcastic comments like you do...it makes life more fun and interesting right?

You're very welcome. Happy new year.

Never thought I'd say sarcasm is easier to portray virtually than realistically but these dang masks!! They kinda put a damper on humor and got everyone nervous at the same time.

Which just makes me laugh even more and I was already the only person laughing which makes them stare longer which just makes me laugh more.

You're welcome, thanks for joining in again, and all the best for the rest of the week.

So does coffee. He and a Faith are on some Ttwissted time zone channel.

As many times I've typed Faith, the dang thing tried to pass it off just now without capitalizing the F.

Autocorrect can be a real dick sometimes

🤣🤣🤣

He and a Faith are on some Ttwissted time zone channel.

Agreed.

Tell me about it. 😅
Autocorrect takes complete control.

Thanks so much - looks like some folks liked the music too! Happy to bring a little modern classical to those interested.

Kayaking sounds fun in January; maybe if my crypto holdings let me retire this year, I can enjoy summer year-round by hopping between the two hemispheres. And I could then also enjoy fresh seafood too nonstop- as much as I've been digging canned sardines with a side of beer this winter, I could really go for some fresh fish, oysters, sushi..really anything at this point. Hope you both had a great weekend and start to the new year too! Thanks again!

It's cool just to see everyone's varied taste. Music is such a personal appreciation, the fact we all tolerate individual preferences is a billboard topper itself.

Where about a in Wisconsin are you? I have some people who live in the U.P. I've only been there once, for a Packer about five years ago—they played the Chargers.

I've never seen such a well lit, masterfully built, gigantic NFL stadium in the middle of two days worth of corn fields.. ever.. then I made the drive from Madison to Green Bay that year and now I've seen it all.

I'm in a town called La Crosse on the western border against the Mississippi River. It's a very old river town...I have some ideas for #weekend-engagement posts this year looking at some the history here, and looking forward to posting them in the coming weeks.

Oh yeah, Green Bay! I lived there for two years for work; I went to many a game there thanks to some corporate tickets. Granted, it was during the Brett Favre days, so I've never actually been able to see Rodgers play in person. It's a great stadium and great city. If you know the "game" at Lambeau, you can avoid $30-$75 parking by literally parking in an unassuming neighborhood 4 street blocks away and walk to the stadium.

The Madison to Green Bay drive is good, but if you ever get back here, check out this part of the state. The Great River Highway is a great drive with amazing views of the Mississippi River Valley area. The whole area is called the Driftless, and it is said that some of the waterways here are some of the oldest waters in the world.

Nice man, will do. Only time I've seen the Mississippi is each time we cross it on the 40 during a coast time coast tour.

We rode a shuttle bus from the motel we stayed at near an Indian Casino about 15 miles outside Green Bay. So we didn't pay for parking.

Dude I've been to quite a few stadiums, off the top of my head, I'm thinking at least 15 NFL stadiums, not counting NBA arenas. Never in my life have I walked on a field. Never in my life have I passed through security without going through a metal detectors.

Both happened at Lambeau. Drove through there and here's this lit up stadium in the middle of nowhere. It was about 11:30pm but the joint was all lit up. Well my buddy's a Packer fan so I pulled off the freeway. We pulled right up, parked, walked right in and all the way down to the 50 yard line. He's quite a bit older than me and that was his first ever Packer game so walking on the field, though exciting for me, he'll never forget it.

yeah it's an experience, isn't it? As you said, it's quite a spectacle in the middle of small town. I wasn't lucky to get on the field, but I did get to see a "coworker's" Superbowl ring (not really a coworker, but he was a big time VP who was part of the Packer organization too).

Did you get to experience the tailgate phenomenon too? Lol, I won't lie...a few times I might not have remembered watching the first half of the game after some of those tailgate experiences.

I'm glad you asked. It was the quietest shuttle ride ever, my buddy and I brought beers and the rest of the shuttle were packer fans. They slept on the way in. And there was only about 4 tailgate parties going on in the parking lot, I shit you not, all four were Chargers fans.

Got another for you. We had breakfast before the game there in Green Bay, not a car on the street. I actually stood in the middle of the street for a picture. Ghost town. Had breakfast and the TV's didn't have any other games on. I said something to the waitress about it and she said they only watch Packer games. Man I thought that was funny. I said "you know there's like 30 other teams in the league, right?" She said "is that how many? No, I didn't know that."

ha, I believe that. It's religion up there. You must have caught a slow time for the tailgating, although maybe things have changed up there since I was there. The parking lot used to be filled with drinking. If you were lucky, you knew someone who lived near the stadium and they allowed you to both park for free and party before the game. This was like 2002-2003, and I haven't been back, so things have changed. If you really want a Wis experience, book a Brewer game; I've known a few friends who have ended up in the stadium's jail in the basement from time to time.

Thanks for stopping by on the #weekend-engagement topic this week. I hope you'll come back when time permits. New topic each Friday.

Lol, yeah kayaking is cool, when the weather is hot! 🙂 We're fortunate here where I live, we can yak almost year round. In fact the middle of winter can be the best...20 degrees (C) and blue skies. Kayaking in 45 degree heat is no fun.

I like the sound of chasing summer around the globe...Now, all you have to do is make it a reality.

P.s. The seafood here in Australia is amazing. Just saying. 😁

Hi @galenkp, I got here by @trangbaby's recommendation to check out #weekend-engagement. I think this is what I'm looking for. The engagement in this post is better compared to what I usually see on my feeds. I joined the community, and I probably look for other communities as well.

Thanks for joining the community. There you can post anything weekend related and I curate there all through the week so you don't need to wait until the weekend.

The #weekend-engagement topic is released on Friday, usually Friday late afternoon my time which cold be early Friday or Late Thursday depending on where people are. It runs all weekend and all people need to do is respond in the comments to answer the topic I set. It's just a bit of fun and a place to interact and meet people.

Oh, I see. But I have a question... what do you mean by "weekend related"?

Pretty much anything that you do on a weekend, want to do, think about doing, did one weekend 20 years ago...Pretty much anything that you can relate to the weekend. I made it broad like that so it should be easy for people to find something to post.

It could be:

I powered up hive on the weekend, I slept all weekend, I went away to Bolivia one weekend and here is the photos...Or, I'm going to do such and such this weekend. I built Lego on the weekend, I read a book on the weekend, cooked some food, ate pizza, went for a walk, lost my phone, broke my leg, lost my job, got covid-19...

You get the idea? Anything that relates to the weekend. Don't post about stuff that is not about the weekend in some way.

I'm happy to clarify some more, just ask. :)

Oh, I see. Your explanation helped me understand it better. Thank you!.

No worries...Just add some passion, personality and effort and you'll be fine. Take a look through the feed and see what people are posting about, that'll help too. It's a place for some fun so just do that. 😉
