Hello Hive, with @altheana, we are still in the middle of our move. I guess it's something that takes time, especially when there’s work to be done in the new house.
Fortunately, the weather is on our side!
In our house, there is a wood stove. According to the owner, it was installed a long time ago, but it was really poorly done. So we had no choice but to redo the pipes.
In the meantime, we can't heat the house, and it’s -5 degrees outside. We do have small electric heaters, but they’re not enough for the house, and on top of that, they cost us over 20 euros in heating per day.
We ordered the last part we needed several days ago since it wasn’t available in stores. It’s quite a specific piece.
But this weekend, we finally received it! A week earlier than the estimated delivery time, which is definitely a good thing.
As you can see, it’s a tiny part, a fitting that allows us to connect the stove to the ceiling.
The whole setup looks like this. If the stove looks wet, it’s because I started by cleaning it. This was important since I think it hadn’t been cleaned in at least five years.
Then, just like a LEGO set, I assembled the pipes. It’s not difficult. The hardest part of this whole thing was actually choosing the pipes (getting the right size and diameter, knowing that some pipes have male ends and others female ends).
Once everything was installed, there was a small sense of satisfaction seeing the result. It’s already a big step forward in this house.
After it was done, I quickly lit a small fire to check for any smoke leaks:
To do things properly, I should also install a carbon monoxide detector. It’s a gas that is invisible and odorless, yet extremely dangerous and responsible for many deaths each year.
Another essential thing to do is to call a chimney sweep. So, that’s what I did after seeing there didn’t seem to be any smoke leaking from my pipes.
I found one quickly online. He doesn’t have a website but has a Google page and a Facebook page. According to his clients, he is very kind and, most importantly, very meticulous. This is good because he’ll be able to tell me whether my installation is okay or not.
Of course, I hope he agrees with me because that will save me from additional expenses. But I mostly want him to tell me the truth because safety is more important than any expensive bill.
Saturday night, I had a big surprise birthday party for a friend’s 25th. So we went back to our parents’ place, and upon arriving, I got ready and took a little nap in front of the TV to prepare for the evening ahead.
By the way, the party was a success. On Sunday, I didn’t do much! ;D
All photos were taken with my phone. I am French, and the translation into English was done using the DeepL API.
That looks great. You can keep yourself warmer now. 🤗
Almost yes, the chimney sweep still needs to come 😃
