Brown Bears in Alaska | Geographic Harbour

in Weekend Experiences5 months ago (edited)

Is there anything you'd rate as eleven out of ten?

Yes, I absolutely would it would definitely be Geoprahic Harbour—three reasons why.

1. Tranquillity

Arriving in peace and calm (reflection calm) after enduring the endless hum of the engine for the past 48 hours is an experience that never gets old. This provided a very quick recovery from our previous night shifts. In the morning, we were greeted by sunshine, and the only thing that broke the silence was a seaplane landing in another bay.

2. Landscape

There’s no need for further explanation; the photos truly capture the breathtaking beauty of the fjords. The majestic peaks, still dusted with snow even in mid-summer, add to the scene’s allure. I can only imagine how spectacular the view would be from a seaplane, offering a unique perspective on the stunning landscape.

3. Nature

We knew that bears would be present, but not to this extent. Even when we entered the passage to the harbour, we saw a brown bear straight away. The salmon are running like crazy, leaping into rivers and practically flying into the bears' mouths (yes, we saw a bear catching salmon). Halibut is now on our lunch and dinner menu; we caught a nice 20-pounder and a 30-pounder. Salmon raspberries are everywhere and taste so much better than anything available in our supermarkets. So, we're definitely not starving, and neither are the bears—they look very healthy. The one below appears to be eating a lot of grass, as it helps digest all the food and provides the nutrients it needs.

I mean, if you don’t rate this bay 11 out of 10, I’d really like to know where you’ve been. Comment below.

I know why it is so tasty, the wilder the fish and raspberries the more taste it acquires. we too have a word called as ‘Nati’ which refers to the wild local food. 🥘 I can definitely relate to it. The bear looks so healthy and hunting for fish.. I bet you had a great time watching and capturing these images. The landscape looks amazing, especially the reflection of the sky on the water. no wonder you enjoy the tranquility of the place and could gain some time to just cool off and not think of work. 🐻

You are completely correct. Thank you for your kind words.

Definitely an eleven out of 10. Was there an danger being that close to a brown bear.

Damn those are beautiful shots for sure and absolutely a great way to spend some time. So tranquil! Salmon berries are something we’d love to try but they sadly don’t grow on this side of the US, but we’ve heard about them! We had a fun snacking experience with wild blueberries, raspberries and blackberries last week so I won’t complain too much :D

Yes, the salmon berries are not everywhere but are pretty scary to get to as well. We were basically walking on bear tracks the whole time. Of course, we had bear spray and were making noise, but getting near a bear is not fun. Thank you for your kind words.

Yeah I think we may have been near a black bear once when I was hiking with my son. By “near” I mean a few hundred feet but that’s close enough for me! Lol. We make a lot more noise when we hike but thankfully we don’t go into the deep mountains like some others yet.

Congratulations @glideglobe! You received the biggest smile and some love from TravelFeed! Keep up the amazing blog. 😍 Your post was also chosen as top pick of the day and is now featured on the TravelFeed front page.
