RE: Weekend-engagement topic week 50: The natural world

in Weekend Experiences4 years ago

This is an easy one for me...
Cause this comes second nature (haha see what I did there).

This is Suriname ladies and gents!
Not the city, but somewhere in the interior. There are native American and Maroon societies in these jungles. Luckily enough they also have certain "resorts" where you can spend a few day enjoying nature.
What you're looking at are the rapids of a river making a turn through the jungle.
You can actually take a swim and even sit in those rapids (the weaker ones) but looking at it and hearing the water is as soothing as it gets for me....

@galenkp that shot looks amazing and New Zealand is officially on my travel list! Not sure I'll get a helicopter ride but I'll try to!

This is great! Such a peaceful looking spot and who doesn't like the sound of running water in the wilderness?

I knew you'd come up with something awesome and you didn't disappoint!

Haha thanks I feel like your weekly topics give me another chance to express myself (and show off any photography in the process)

This looks so beautiful! We don't really have such 'big' nature here in the Netherlands, so I always get a little envious ;-)

Hahaha it's one flight, a few car rides and a boat trip away!
Not now though, wait until the covid numbers go down 😔

Lovely artwork of nature. Suriname is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! Always a pleasure to tell people more about the country!

Suriname is really a fascinating quiet place!

Yes it is! Lots of nature and a very interesting culture to boot!
Plan on visiting?

Nature nature thanks to nature🙏 what a lovely view. It seems it was also taking from a helicopter.

Thank you!
Close! It was a mini quadcopter with a camera 😁...

😃 I'm talking about Drones ofcourse

This looks really beautiful, just imagining the sound of the river brings me peace.

Thanks! Exactly, it does, just sitting there by the river, meditating or with a book is kind my ultimate form of relaxation 😃

That's just amazing. Incredible beauty and a great subject.

I'm a river rat, and I'm pretty darn sure I'd like this one!

You would definitely!
From the posts/comments I've gathered you would have loads of fun exploring out there!

A wonderful photo. The colors of the place are cheerful and fill me with energy just looking at them.

Special shout-out to nature for making this possible 🤣

That's a gorgeous photo. It's always soothing to hang out by rushing water. Where are you located again?

Thanks!

This shot is from Suriname, where I grew up. It's north of Brazil, next to Guyana and French Guyana.

I'm currently in Curaçao, haha that's another story all together 😁

Interior of Suriname is beautiful don't think I have seen to many photographs of this region thanks @gvkanten

My pleasure! I'll try to post more about it in my #TravelThursday posts. There is a lot to show

Suriname is one of those places you don't hear about a lot. It is an neighbor country and I bet by the location it is a beautiful place. This picture show a bit of it. Great piece of nature!

You're totally right, it's grossly under-exposed in terms of tourism. However, that's also the reason why there are more than enough nature spots to visit.
Now that you mention it I'm getting curious about travel between South American countries...

There are some beautiful things around this part of the world. Just don't get into socialist countries. 😅

Hahahha thanks for the tip!

Up till now I've been to Colombia, Peru, Guyana and French Guyana and Suriname ofcourse.. But I still have a long wat to go

Well, that's a lot of countries. Hopefully, you'll get the rest of the not-red-listed ones soon enough.

Amazing! It is a spectacular place, I loved it! 😍

Thank you ☺️

You are right, nature is magic. many of us are far away from it. The city consumes us...

Maybe it's time to make an effort to get closer to nature... Are you with me? 😃

That's right, you are very right... I go along with you in that feeling.

I've always wondered what Suriname is like.. right from the first day I heard of the country I had.. well ideas of what it would be like... It looks so so beautiful

Thanks! It has a lot of different sights and sounds but this, the jungle, is one of my favorites.

Where did you first hear about Suriname?

from the memorizing various countries around the world as a 10 year old.. the name of the country struck me.. i thought it was quite a funny name

Woaoooo, what a gorgeous shot! I vote for this one 🤩

Hahah thank you thank you!
I'll accept this vote 😁😁😁

Cheers 🥂🤩
