2024 was a year filled with stories for me. Be it from the lives of the people I encountered or from the shows I watched/events I attended.
Watching theater shows was one of my sources of story intake. In this post, I'll share with you the theater shows I watched. So if this is something you are interested in, continue reading.
20 QUESTIONS | April 2024
This was my first theater show of the year! I gifted my friend a ticket as a birthday present, so we watched it together. It was also our first time to watch a show together, so it made the moment more special.
20 Questions was an intimate show. The space was small, and the audience capacity was also very limited -- which I like. The story of 20 Questions revolves around 2 characters (male and female), who were locked up in one room for 24 hrs. And during their time in that room, they took turns in asking each other 20 questions.
The storytelling was simple and very relatable, especially for adults/young adults.
Ang Pinakamakisig sa mga Nalunod sa Buong Daigdig | July 2024
One of my acquaintances joined PETA Workshop, and this was their final output/performance. It was a free show, and I am glad I was able to get a seat. Knowing that the actors then were not yet professionals, my focus during that show was on being amazed at how good they were! It didn't feel like a low budget/low quality production. Ang gagaling talaga nila! I also liked how the story touched on some societal issues/problems and portrayed it in a unique and effective way.
Giselle | September 2024
This was my first theater ballet show experience, and it was gifted to me by my classmate in a certificate program we both joined. Yay!
TBH,I got bored in the freestyle/pure dancing part. Maybe because I am not a dancer, so I couldn't appreciate a lengthy ballet dance? I don't know. But I did like the storyline part. I was in awe with how they were able to tell the story with zero words. Just their body movements and the music. Amazing!
One More Chance | September 2024
Ok, fasten your seatbelt because we are now in the part of my favorite theater show to this day! Aaaaaaaa. HAHAHAH
When I first show the One More Chance The Musical announcement, I sent it to my theater-lover friend right away, and we agreed to watch together. But unfortunately, we didn't get to secure a ticket during the first run because it got sold out fast! Haha. When the second run was announced, we really made sure we would be able to get our tickets, and we did! Woohh!
I felta lot of emotions during and after the show. I couldn't explain it with words, but until now, I still remember the feeling it gave me. It literally felt like my heart was going to burst because the emotions was overwhelming, in a good way. I really loved it so much.
It was also nice that each character was given an air time to tell they own story, and not just the lead characters. Plus the songs... they were able to incorporate Ben and Ben songs to the lines very effectively, as if it was written just for the show.
I really hope OMC will rerun again so more people could experience it as well.
Tabing Ilong | November 2024
Tabing Ilog was based on an old Filipino TV series with the same title, Tabing Ilog. I haven't watched that series because it was aired when I was super young pa, so I didn't know the story before going to the show. All I knew was that it tells a story about a barkada or group of friends who always spends time together by the river in their province.
Tabing Ilog The Musical is a great reminder to appreciate the simple things in life and to take time to know deeply, both ourselves and those who surround us.
Sari-Sali Portal Cafe | December 2024
I chanced upon PETA's post on Instagram about Sari-Sali Portal Cafe, and right then and there, I knew that this would be a unique show. It was a free show, and I got a chance to save a slot for myself! Sari-Sali is a collaboration between PETA and Japan's theater organization. And like my initial thought, it was indeed a unique experience! It was an interactive show, needing an audience participation. That part actually made it extra fun and memorable! This show depicts an everyday life of different people in different settings, and how we each have a story to tell.
Each show I watched has made me reflect on life, and I am fortunate enough to experience them all. I am looking forward ro watching more shows this 2025.
Stay sane and safe!
Let's spread happiness.
