This weekend is special in Brazil. Today they celebrate Día dos Namorados (Lovers' Day).
I have a special someone I have been dating for some time now, and I wanted to surprise him with this little art present.
Why do Brazilians celebrate their version of Valentine in June? Well, first of all February os for Carnival and only Covid-19 can get on the way of samba and garotas. No Valentine will deviate the attention from carnival. So, they moved it to the 12th of June, which is the eve of the celebration of Sain Antony's Day, a Catholic Saint. Allegedly, it is a very festive day, although with the current situation it may have changed a lot (I'll tell you about it tomorrow).
I love this cute little fella, called The Bean. I first saw it in the Whatsapp sticker packets and just loved it. It's so simple and yeat so expressive.
SourceI did some research about the origen of the character and it's fascinating. This kid, Harry Hambley came up with the design when he was just 18 and it became a big hit mediatic and commercial. I have been followign him for some two years now and I just love how he has developed this character.
Process
I got this small framed canvas and did the simplest strokes.
Some acrylic paint, basic colors, white and red, and I copied one cute design I love.
I added final touches with markers
And it's ready to surprise someone while we go out and have dinner.
