Despite this ongoing covid shit, small occasions like birthdays or big celebrations like weddings are yet still a win in this life. Lately, I have been celebrating these occasions with some of my closest friends and relatives despite the restrictions and obstacles the pandemic has caused us.
I have always been the so called "event photographer" for my relatives' events. And last Saturday, this was the role I volunteered to do for my cousin who was celebrating the christening of her 2nd baby and 2nd birthday of her eldest daughter. Capturing these special moments is my gift for them.
Theo's Christening
The Christening of Theo was held at San Roque Parish Church in Mandaue City. It was a private event and scheduled time was 10:00am. I arrived 9:00am. Too early to be honest but I had to because I was hitching with my dad. Anyways, I really thought that we were going to do it at the big church but it was actually done in a small chapel where limited people were allowed. For us, they only allowed 13 people inside. It was pretty intimate.
The inside of the chapel was modern and clean. I wasn't expecting that. Also, the priest was direct to the point with the ceremony from beginning till the end. It only took us about 15 - 20 minutes to finish it. Theo was also very calm during the whole event. No fidgeting and no crying! We were glad and happy about it.
Masks are still required to be worn inside and social distancing was still practiced although I don't think its very relevant anymore at this point.
Carla's 2nd Birthday
We then headed to Golden Cowrie in Lahug, Cebu to celebrate Theo's older sister's 2nd birthday. We arrived 11:00am and my cousin and her siblings still need to decorate the place before the guests arrive. I helped them a little bit.
Golden Cowrie's function room was quite big but it was very noticeable that their interior have already worn out throughout the years. Also, air conditioning was not that good. They need to do an upgrade. However, food was definitely good. I enjoyed their pancit canton and sweet and sour fish. Golden Cowrie is a good deal if you are definitely looking for a very affordable event place.
Only a few kids were present, Carla and Theo's cousins. We basically sang a happy birthday song, ate till we were full and let the kids run around and have fun. But what was important for me was just be able be in touch with my cousins I haven't seen since the start of the pandemic. It was really good seeing them and catching up with what is happening with our lives.
Personal Musings
After living like a hermit for the past year due to covid, seeing your closest friends and relatives is definitely a breath of fresh air. Its nice to be able to talk to people in person. Although I still do not recommend doing this all the time while this covid shit show is still ongoing.
