Good morning, my dear Hivers! How's your long weekend, everyone? I hope you're having a good time. For holy week, holiday started on Thursday and Friday but some people opted to take a vacation leave on Monday to Wednesday to maximize the long weekend.
I started my day a little late as I savor my much needed additional hour of sleep. I then make myself a cup of brewed coffee, as per usual, and paired it with 2 slices of wheat bread. Nothing much is planned for today. Except that we'll visit churches and pray. My family is religious but only to some extent.
As mentioned in my previous blogs, I'm a Sto Nino devotee since my highschool days. I remember visiting the monument every after school as it's just along the way from our school.
However, ever since I started work, Ive only visited the church quite seldomly. And it made so much difference in my faith. So my resolution is to exert more effort and try to visit the church more often.
Another one of our family's well loved church is Simala Shrine, located 3 hours away from the city. We only visit this place one a year, maximum, because of the long driving hours.
Many church goers believe that this is a place for miracles- be it health or career wise. Inside the church is a section where cancer survivors and board passer testaments are placed.
Another tradition we have is cooking benignit (hot halo halo) every holy week. It's my mom's favorite during this time. Unfortunately, ingredients for this snack/dessert is sold out today. Maybe we will make them tomorrow instead.
Some families go out of town or head to the beach during holy week. But we'd like to keep our tradition simple, as we're all homebody in family.
