A Perfectly Spontaneous Sunday: Family, Food, and Christmas Vibes

in Weekend Experiences2 months ago (edited)
Hello there again, my sweetest Hivers! How's your weekend so far? As for the days of the week, weekends are the most pleasant indeed because, at least after a tiring week, there are two days that make everything a bit faster but at the same time, a bit freer. Weekends are too fleeting, honestly, hahahaha, which is why we should always make the most of the day. So, on this typical Sunday, my cousins and I planned to go to the nearby church. Of course, it's always been best to start or conclude Sunday by attending mass. While we’re all busy living our own lives during the week, these are the Sundays when, for whatever reason, we get together as a family. After the mass, we sat for a while outside and took some pictures.

Then we continued talking about what to do next. Having said that, we had spontaneously planned to go outside for dinner. It's already late in the afternoon as well, so it's the perfect time to eat some food. But before that, my other cousin was still out grocery shopping with their family, so we had to do something as a pastime. We just felt like, instead of walking around like crazy, we’d grab something. While waiting, we decided to go to the nearby 7/11 to buy some cool drinks. I grabbed some cold coffee. We stayed around, had our drinks, chatted, and took pictures.

Isn’t it amusing how even simply grabbing a cold drink can become so much fun and relaxing? Hahahaha, maybe it's because of the people you're with. Every once in a while, there are these small little happenings, the ones that are not planned, that turn out to be quite fun.

When my cousin was done from the supermarket, we went to SM Consolacion to eat dinner. We weren’t looking at any particular place to go, although we were starving. Actually, most of the time, the only places we usually go to eat are McDonald's, Jollibee, or Mang Inasal, so this time we thought otherwise. Then there was Chowking, and we said to ourselves, why not? Chowking, though tried on several occasions, is actually not my core preference. But this time around, I quickly grabbed a chowfan.

After all, it's already been a long time since I ate this one because I'm more of a Jollibee type of person. I just ordered this one, yet it already satisfied me, especially the crunchy lumpiang shanghai. So we sat around the table and talked. The mere fact that we were all eating together was enough to make the day feel just that bit more fun. For me, it’s not just about the food or the restaurant; it’s the little moments and conversations that count. It's even more precious considering that it’s just an unexpected and spontaneous plan.

But the moment of the meal, or even a conversation in the restaurant, was not the only highlight of the day. After we ate, we strolled for a while in the mall. My other cousin actually wanted us to go to the cinema to watch "Hello, Love, Again," but most of us passed on that for now, hahahaha—we hadn't brought enough money for that. By the way, I could sense the holiday atmosphere around. I suddenly realized that Christmas is already fast approaching, most especially by looking at Christmas trees, lampposts, and all sorts of festive decorations.

Even to the naked eye, it was clear that the holiday season was almost around the corner, especially upon hearing Christmas songs playing in the air. It’s quite surprising how fast time has passed, and while writing this post, I could feel myself getting into that holiday spirit with Christmas knocking on the door. Santa Claus is almost coming to town. Yepey! When we're strolling in the mall with Christmas lights shining here and there, I can’t help but get excited about the season.

After we were through with our dinner and had completed our walking tour inside the mall, it was already evening. We didn’t have a ‘Big Picture,’ no thrilling adventures, nor planned activities, but it was as good as it should be. I’m already so grateful that somehow, on this simple Sunday, I got to spend the day with my cousins. Looking back on the way home, I came to the realization that at some point, it is actually good not to have a plan for the weekend because sometimes things will just happen out of spontaneity, and those moments often turn out to be the most memorable.

Thanks for reading and happy Sunday, everyone!

my only motivation to survive the weekdays is to look forward for the weekend and it's so sad that we only get two weekends. that's why it's important to make the most out of it and I'm glad you did

Weekdays can feel so long, and the weekends always seem to fly by. 🥹 That's why, I hope that next weekend will be just as great. 🫶🏻

It's a day well-spent with the people you love💓

Yes @milesinverse, there's nothing better than spending quality time with our fam. 🥹

Oh super cool. There are a number of things I find cool about this post;

  • y'all attended Mass, I'm Catholic too and I did too 😁.
  • that Catholic brother is cute 🙃 and so are you. Well, you all are, really.
  • lastly, it's already all Christmasy on your end, it's so beautiful, and now I can't wait to go home. :)

Ah, yes! Spontaneous times like this are only fun because of the people you spend it with.

Quick one, do y'all celebrate the feast of Christ Is King on the streets?

Oh, that’s awesome! It feels so nice to meet someone of the same faith. This guy right here’s my cousin. Also, regarding the Feast of Christ the King, it is not usually celebrated on the streets like in the Philippines, but there are some that do hold processions or feast celebrations. Is it celebrated that way where you are? Would be cool to know how others do it! 🤗

IKR. 😁🤗

Oh I see.

Ah yes, we always go out on the streets here in Nigeria, and do it like it was done during the life of Christ, you know singing and dancing... every year really. It's always significant and fun. I didn't join the procession this year though, mostly because I'm currently in a state in which the language is different, but it did happen.

It's so lovely to read about simple days that become special thanks to family and spontaneity 😊. The best memories are often the unplanned ones, and with that Christmas vibe, it must have felt even more magical! 🎄

I totally agree! Sometimes the best moments are the ones that just happen without any planning. By the way, with the Christmas vibe, yeah, everything just feels extra special. It feels like Christmas was just a few months ago. 😩 Thanks for reading!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻

You're right @jeannmazing sometimes, better not to have a plan for the weekend. Plan gala often not to happen. 😊

I agree with that. Sometimes, the more something is planned, the less likely it is to happen... that's why they often call it drawing hahaha 😂

wow malls be ready for XMas already! Looks like you had a great Sunday! The food though doesn't seem completely Chinese. Is it like a fusion food with PH?

You got that right! It's a fusion with Filipino food, especially the toppings like lumpia and siomai. 😂

I see . It makes sense because when I saw the menu there it didn't seem like the normal chinese food haha

Well spent weekend miss @jeannmazing 😍

It really was, miss @elyssagween! Hope yours was just as awesome! 🥳

for me, weekend's the best 😁

The festive vibe you described adds such a warm touch—Christmas really is just around the corner! 🎄😊
