Hello everyone and hello to all weekend lovers.
When the sun wakes you up on Saturday morning, you can’t stay home. So I decided to go to the market early to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. There are a lot of markets, but I have a favorite, which is located in Zemun, the old part of my city, by the Danube river. I love the market by the river because I can always buy fresh fish there and that place has a special charm that makes me feel relaxed.
Going to the market is one of my favorite weekend rituals for several reasons.
Walking through the old part of the city makes my life slow down a bit and I get away from the city hustle and bustle for a while.
It is always colorful and all those colors brighten my day.
I am a salad lover and choosing vegetables for salad is always a special moment for me.
When I photographed the market stall in the picture below, the lady who sells said to me: "Since you are photographing, now you have to buy something." 🙂
So I bought onions and garlic, celery, radishes, beets, and spinach.
I love flowers and I always stop by the market stalls where flowers are sold. Spring is starting and I am looking forward to flowering.
Another reason I love the market is the fish. Fresh fish from local fishermen can always be bought at the Zemun market.
Some markets are too noisy and then I can't wait to finish shopping and leave, but Zemun Market is different. Everything there is calm and slow.
And of course, there are apples. Lots of apples of different kinds.
Here you can buy domestic apples. Their appearance is therefore not perfect, they are not too big and the same shape, but they are very sweet and tasty, and one kilogram costs only about 0.50 $. There are even for 0.30 $.
You can also buy various types of tea here... As well as a dried fruit. I am especially impressed by the dried ginger because of its special taste.
On my way back from the market I photographed some interesting spots that caught my attention.
The door of an old building. Through this door we can peek into the way of life here, relaxing and calm.
A lone crow on an old wall. At the moment, I wanted to be in its place, to enjoy some shade and fly whenever I wanted. 🙂
Interesting floral window decoration.
The architectural style of old buildings, facades, colorful doors, and windows...
The view of the Danube. It is always soothing, especially in the morning when there is no crowd and you can hear the silence by the river.
And here I am. 🙂
With bags full of fruits and vegetables, going home to make a salad and enjoy the rest of the weekend. I hope you enjoy it too.
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.
Greetings!
Jelena
There are plenty of fresh vegetables in the market you visited :)))
Dunav 💔
My favorite market. I live on the other side of the city but it’s not hard for me to go there every weekend. The spirit of Zemun is something special, I believe you know that. 😊
Well, I dont really know very well Zemun, just drove through it several times, but I do know that it differs from Bg. a lot :)
Hello Jelenaa
Oh that is a stunning market, I would have loved to accompany you there and walk and just talk about things as we browsed. Very pretty place. Thank you for sharing
Enjoy your vegetables and fish.
Thanks. This place is picturesque and peaceful and it is always pleasant to walk around and at the same time buy fresh food. It would be my pleasure to join me. 😊 Have a nice rest of the weekend.

I love open-air markets like this. Gorgeous photos! I hope you are enjoying your Sunday and that the salad was delicious. 🤗
I enjoy going to the market. It's not just about buying food. It has become a ritual that makes me happy. The salad was great, beets, garlic, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. 😊
I love going to the markets too. Except when here we had those times of shortage of products. I hated to be in line to buy things. But thank god, we can enjoy going to the markets again. And the salad sounds tasty. 😋😊
I know exactly what you mean about the sun shining and waking you up on a Saturday. It’s like an automatic “what will I do today?”
Really nice photos, I love seeing those types of buildings and windows with so many beautiful details. That market looks amazing with all of the fresh and healthy produce.
Haha I LOL’d when you told us what that lady said! I guess your purchase earned those photos. 😄
Thank you so much, I'm glad you like it! I laughed too because of the lady. Vegetables were not cheap at all, the photos turned out to be very expensive in the end. 🤣
You’re welcome!
Haha that’s so funny ~ 😆
wow! What a great Saturday you had. That market is very nice, it feels like a tourist outlet more than a simple purchase hehe... I love to go shopping, so I would love to visit a market like that 😃
Thanks. It is a market in the old part of my city, which has a unique spirit and a completely different way of life. Even I feel like a tourist there. 😀
I miss going to a fresh fruit and meat market, that looks awesome Jelena😁
Do you have a market like this in your place? I enjoy going to the market to choose fruits and vegetables, fish and in the end I like to rest by the river. 😊 I m glad you like it.
Unfortunately no, this is too small a town to have a market like that :(
Yes I saw you resting at the river after shopping😁
