WEEK 129: It is never too late to learn to do sewing

It's time to dust off my mom's old sewing machine and stop procrastinating, that goal I had set for a long time, with a little luck, maybe this weekend, I can at least understand how this machine works and plan after that my next couture projects. Wow, I'm aiming high already, but at least creating some crafts with my daughter, that would be a lot of fun.

This machine is special for us, it has been at home for a couple of decades, it is the first machine my older sister had, she is a seamstress and can make whatever you want, just bring her a couple of meters of fabric and the model of your choice and in a few days she will make your fashion dreams come true, it turns out that I am the opposite of her, if I am honest, inserting a needle is a difficult task for me. Although embroidery and knitting have always attracted my attention, I have never really set my mind to it.

The truth is that my sister bought a new machine, a more modern one with more functions, and this was given to my mother, so that she could mend clothes in an easier way, because due to the work of my father, who is a farmer, his clothes tend to tear easily and as it is for field work, there is no choice but to mend them all the time.

The first thing I have done this week to learn to sew, is to look for my mom's machine, with her help, I have installed it and I have set out at least to understand how it works, I think it is a little complicated, this to insert the thread spools, we must pass it through several holes until it reaches the final needle, my mom was a little nervous, because she feared that she would finish her children, but wow is that they get tangled a lot and break easily. But practice makes perfect, you may have to damage a couple of spools of thread before you learn how to insert them effectively.

My sister and my mom, made it look very easy, but I have already realized that it is not so, it takes practice and knowledge, now, this machine although it is electric, is a pedal, we must control the speed of the punctures with the foot, just like a brake, luckily this is not a car, because I would already be in trouble with the traffic. Well, it's hard for me to slow down, my foot feels the impulse to accelerate it too much and the needle doesn't know which line to follow, more wasted thread and my mom is on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

My daughter is doing better, she managed to have more control of the pedal, we have had a lot of fun, thanks to the weekend commitment and as I am a person who likes to challenge herself, this will not be my last attempt to learn to sew, when my sister is visiting, I will ask her for some classes, mainly for my daughter, it would be ideal that from now on, she learns this trade that is ultimately very useful in life.

This is my entry for [ https://peakd.com/hive-168869/@galenkp/week-129-weekend-engagement-concept), it has been a pleasure to participate, thank you @galenkp for your awesome suggestions.

That's how you speak friend, we should never give up when it comes to learning. I'm just like you, psyched to sew. My grandmother had a sewing machine like the one in your photographs but I don't know how it ended, but my mother has a slightly more modern one that has a fault, I'm going to repair it to practice because I've beaten you a bit when it comes to jumping and even pass a straight seam, I need a lot of practice, hehehe. Cheers @karocont2011

That's good, my friend. Take advantage that you have that tool. And let's get to work, it's time to make it useful, I'm missing it.

This is so cool and relaxing. I wish I knew how to do that. Well done and go ahead!

Oh thank you very much. It's never too late to start haha. Greetings and happy week

It's nice that you cherish that memory and attempting to learn how to sew. Especially doing it with your daughter, that just makes this experience would be more memorable.

I would like her to learn, maybe she will discover something she likes, or it will serve as experience.
