It was an experience I can never forget. I was watching my favorite football club trailing behind by a goal in the last minutes. Then within two minutes, two goals were scored to secure 3 important points for us. I and a fellow fan beside did not know when we hugged in happiness.
Have you ever noticed the atmosphere where sports lovers gather together to watch? There is no doubt that it brings enthusiasts together, people that would not have met one another if not for the sole reason of sports entertainment. In my country we have what we call the viewing center. This is a place where we gather to watch our favorite sports, teams and players. The football is the most popular sport we watch; the English Premier League, Laliga, UEFA competitions etc.
What I find particularly amazing about being a lover of sports entertainment is how we can immersed ourselves in it and relate with one another, without knowing even the tiniest details about each other. You can talk for hours about what the coach should do, what players clubs need to buy, how a rival club has not won anything in years, while not even knowing each other’s names. You can just be referring to yourselves as boss, chairman, chief. That is the beauty of the passion. You are not obligated to observe the social norms, which does not in any way affect the interactions.
Furthermore, it is just all fun an activity. We talk about huge amounts of money as if we are that involved in the market transactions. One day while discussing with someone in the presence of my grandmother, she called me and asked:
“You bought a player for 120 million euros? You and who? Where did you see the money?” I could not help but laugh. Indeed if you listen to enthusiasts talk about the amount of money used to purchase players, if you do not understand you will look at them and wonder why they do not use that money to upgrade their lives. But that is just the normal route of the discussions.
We all have that one fun activity that helps us enjoy ourselves. For many that activity is sports entertainment. Sometimes when I have a lot on my mind, my mood tends to change when I watch football, regardless of the results. Even if I would eventually go back to the ‘lots on my mind,’ for about 2 hours I would be jumping up and down, temporarily oblivious of my problems.
These feelings of fun and excitement is enough reason for people to be a sport lover for as long as they live. Some have even expressed that they do not find a feeling similar to that in other aspects of their lives. So it is what they look forward to every weekend.
For these reasons, the passion about sports will always be in us, and for many years to come.
