[WE118] Museum of Fine Arts

Hello Hivers, today I want to share with you a fact of the history of the XX century of my country Venezuela. That is why I will talk about the Museum of Fine Arts, located in the Libertador municipality of the city of Caracas (capital). It is the oldest museum of fine arts and one of the most significant in the country.

It was opened to the public in 1918, on October 19. At that time they only had a space to exhibit the works of architecture, painting and sculpture at the Central University of Venezuela. It was not until February 20, 1938 that the President of the Republic, General Eleazar López Contreras, inaugurated the majestic museum's own headquarters. A construction in the best neoclassical style located in Los Caobos Park, the architect responsible for the work was the renowned Carlos Raul Villanueva.

For the year 1976, the aforementioned architect was again in charge of the new building assigned for the museum, built in the eastern sector of the garden of the old building. On that occasion, Brutalist architecture was selected. A minimalist style that emerged in the United Kingdom in the 1950s, exhibiting construction materials and structural elements such as concrete, unpainted bricks, glass, steel and wood.

Later they decided to cede the original building to the National Gallery of Art.

However, in 2008 the Museum of Fine Arts recovered all of its spaces, so today it has 18 rooms to exhibit its entire collection of works from North America, Latin America and Europe. Enjoying a variety of cultures. Some 5638 works distributed in nine collections.

Today we enjoy the Neoclassical complex as well as the Modern complex, wide corridors and a beautiful central courtyard.

With easy access (subway, private vehicle, public transportation) Caracas residents and visitors can enjoy the Museo de Bellas Artes. Open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday. My last visit and the day I took the pictures was three years ago, before the pandemic. At that time, several exhibition rooms were being remodeled, so not all the works were available.

They also have an outdoor cafe adjacent to Los Caobos Park. There is an atmosphere of peace and good energy. For a moment you forget that you are in the middle of the city. I highly recommend it.

I know that the commitment indicates a photograph, I apologize in advance, but I could not help but share some additional ones that I found of interest to understand the museum a little more.

This concludes my participation for another week of weekend engagement. If you want to know all the options, I leave you the link.

I say goodbye wishing you good energy💞

I love this museum. One of the things I love most about moving to Caracas is being able to visit this museum whenever I can, if there are new exhibits. Loved seeing the photos, thank you.

It's interesting and I love the good vibes and the calmness you feel.
