Dear diary
Oh this was a big weekend! A special weekend which I've been planning for the past few weeks.
Friday kicked off with a bang!
Being late with this week's Hive Open Mic Challenge I decided to convince my dear friend and colleague to participate and accompany me on the piano. We are so happy with how it turned out. Feel free to listen to our cover.
Friday evening I performed with the band at our second Keith Urban and Shania Twain tribute show. Tickets sold out fast and we had such a blast.
It is simply amazing and so rare to perform with musicians who you have such a close bond and chemistry with. We are friends, family and partners. We just look at each other on stage and know exactly what the other one is thinking and we follow and compliment each others musical leads without a word being said. I am so privileged to have experienced this a few times in my life and that makes the performance for the artist as well as the listener so much more memorable and bonds are created that will last forever.
I went home after the show with music in my heart and too much adrenaline pumping to fall asleep.
Happiness over our successful show and also excitement for what's to come Saturday morning.
On Saturday it was my husband's "big" 40th birthday party and I planned a special celebration for him. My husband grew up in our local Airforce base and he has fond memories of his childhood days which all came back after we've watched the second Top Gun movie...(that incredible movie deserves a blog all for itself)
That's why I thought it would be super cool to throw him a Top Gun party.
It was such a fun night! We kicked the celebrations of with a good old South African braai (barbeque) followed by cake and champagne and we ended the night dancing in our living room.
My husband used to be a fantastic DJ (when he was younger) so he set up all his disco lights, going all out with even a smoke machine and laser lights. We transformed our living room into a middle aged club.
I'm sure we were not the neighbors favorite this morning but luckily it only happens once a year.
Here's to another 40 years with our own Maverick, our hero!
Sunday morning we slept in (or at least tried to for as long as our 5 year old twins allowed us to).
We had a slow start to the day, cleaning our middle aged clubhouse and spending the rest of our day watching Top Gun, eating leftover cake and telling each other about our highlights of the night before.
Today a week ago I ran my marathon and spent the week recovering with only one short run. I can feel my legs itching to get back on the road again and this week my next 4 weeks marathon training starts to hopefully reach my sub 5 hours qualifying race at the Winelands Marathon on the 26th of November.
Take care
