"Eat the frog...?" ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿ˜… | Weekend-Engagement writing topic: WEEK 167

Hello friends of Hive and the "Weekend Experiences" community!๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

First of all I want to say that I hope I didn't scare those people who didn't understand at first the meaning of the title of my post ๐Ÿ˜…, because it's just a very useful metaphor โœจ.

And the thing is that today I come to participate in the initiative about Mark Twain's phrase that says:"If it's your job to eat a frog ๐Ÿธ, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And If it's your job to eat two frogs ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ, it's best to eat the biggest one first."

What does this quote mean to me?๐Ÿค”

Personally, as soon as I read the phrase I immediately gave it a meaning associated with the learnings I obtained in one of the subjects of my university career (Educational Psychology๐Ÿ“š). In it I had the opportunity to gain a lot of knowledge about teaching-learning processes, how to achieve meaningful learning, study techniques and of course also about productivity, and Mark Twain's phrase is very connected especially with the last two of them โœจ. In other words, for me it refers to the fact that if we have a task, something to study, or a job to do, it is best to take advantage of the first hours of the morning to do it, and in case there are several tasks, several things to study, or several jobs to do, the best thing to do is to start with the most complex one and leave the simplest one last๐Ÿ’ก.

Then analyzing the phrase a little more, I realized that Mark Twain possibly chose to use the frog ๐Ÿธ as part of the metaphor because it is an animal that many people may consider unpleasant or disgusting, and for that reason we will hardly want to get close to it ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ. Therefore, the phrase would also mean that we should first do those tasks that are less pleasant for us ๐Ÿ’ก.

How can I apply its true meaning to my life with positive results?

Well, basically, we would be talking about applying the "Eat the frog" method (popularized by Brian Tracy), in any type of tasks in my day to day life, because I think its applications are very varied, and although I mainly use it for work and studies, I can also start to apply its principles to responsibilities at home, or even to organize family gatherings or events with friends. So, with so many applications, the method would easily help me to organize and take advantage of my time in general in a better way, increasing my productivity and decreasing my procrastination in different areas of my life.

Why does it work?

Well, because after having slept and rested all night, early morning hours are the time when our energy is 100% charged ๐Ÿ”‹ and our cognitive processes such as attention and memory are also at their peak. As the day progresses they logically decrease ๐Ÿ˜ด, and that is why the ideal is to do the most complicated or urgent task (or the one we find less motivating, more boring or more unpleasant) at the beginning of the day, and leave the simpler ones (or the ones we are more motivated to do, or the ones we find more fun or enjoyable) for the end of the day.

Many times we may want to do the opposite ๐Ÿ™ˆ, but that way we will spend our most energy, attention and memory on those simple and pleasant tasks, and by the time we are about to start the more complex or unpleasant ones (which do not motivate us) we will be tired and we will not want to do them, and that is where the tendency to procrastinate comes from ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ. And procrastination, although it can be tempting at times, is actually our enemy, because when we procrastinate we even end up spending more days than necessary on the same task from which we could already be free.

So we must be disciplined enough to consciously choose how we will use our time and in what order we will do our tasks if our goal is to be more productive ๐Ÿ˜‰. Wonderful methods like this exist for us to take advantage of them, but for that we must commit ourselves and put them into practice, making them part of our routine.

I hope that those who did not know about it will apply it and enjoy its benefits ๐Ÿ’œ Of course, we do not need to be 100% productive every day, we must remember that rest and self-care time are also very necessary in our life, so the healthiest thing is to have a balance, and for that, I think that starting to properly order our tasks will be a great ally ๐Ÿค—
