Aye, we are going to head out to the woods. It's freezing cold but bright and sunny so perfect day for dragging the kids out into the real world for some quality den building n shit. Should be good!
Oh, but there is a difference here when it hits 47C. Everything is earlier. I am generally done with my outdoors experience by 0800. I have an air conditioner that's big enough to cool a bowling alley so I honor it by staying inside when it's brutal.
They all die after August. It's the perfect time to go gadding about in Scotland after that. Roundabouts now it's very pretty and flesh eating monster free!!
August? Really? When I was a kid we'd have a mass infusion of flies in the last week or two before the first hard frost. My Grandfather had a name for that time of year
"It's hog killing time". And so it was. Usually mid October to the first week of November.
It gets real cold here from mid/end August onwards. The little nippers are sensitive souls and can't take it. Plenty of wasps still buzzing around and dying right enough!
Far as I'm concerned the bastards deserve the dying. Just sayin'
I've done some cold weather camping. I don't like it much anymore :) There was a New Year's Eve on a ridge in NE Washington. My buddy and I each drank a quart of Jack Daniels. We skied up the ridge New Year's Eve day and down the other side on New Year's Day. Another one of those "Seemed like a good idea at the time" deals.
I hope you have a good one ahead...Anything special planned?

That sounds like fun! Good to get the rugrats out and about in the outdoors...I guess soon it won't be possible when the winter weather closes in.
Oh no, we are hardy creatures. When it gets colder we just wrap up that little bit more!
That's the way...No different to when it gets 47°C here in summer...Life goes on.

That's ok if you can do that...But some people have to work in it. I just melt. 🤣
Is it cold enough to have thinned out the flesh eating insects? Or is that still part of the experience? Toughen the little buggers up, I say.
