Vintage Kava - Fire Jam in Weaverville, NC

Fire Jam at Vintage Kava

A friend of mine found this event last week so we decided to take the one-hour road trip from Johnson City, TN to Weaverville, NC on Sunday, June 18th. This fire jam took place at the coolest venue called Vintage Kava. This charming cafe that serves Kava beverages is located in an old house with plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces for many different events. I will definitely be returning for more in the future. They have another fire jam scheduled for July 23rd!

Why I'm so excited

I used to perform and dance with fire in Charlotte, NC where I lived for 13 years. I've been learning and perfecting the Art of Poi for about 7 years now. I moved back home to East TN and have not found any other fire performers to jam with. Maybe it's time to create my own local event and make some new friends.

As soon as I showed up at this fire jam in Weaverville, I knew these were my people. I have finally found a spot closer to home to meet like-minded flow artists. I didn't dance with fire last night but I did perform with my LED Poi.

Kava Kava

Vintage Kava serves several types of kava beverages in their cafe. While I was there, I tried the PB & K mixed drink which includes concentrated kava extract, peanut butter powder, cocoa powder, oat milk, and yoohoo. I'm not used to drinking kava so I asked them to add a couple shots of simple syrup to mask the bitterness. It tasted like a peanut butter milkshake!

What is Kava you ask?

Kava extract or powder is made from the root of a certain pepper plant that grows in the South Pacific Islands. There are claims that ingesting kava produces anti-anxiety effects resulting in a calm almost euphoric state of mind. You can learn more about the safety of Kava from the Natioinal Center for Complementary and Integrative Health

It is yellow-green in color and somewhat bitter. The primary active ingredients of kava are known as kavalactones; other substances, including alkaloids, are also present and likely account for some of the beverage’s side effects. The beverage is said to induce a state of relaxation, calm, and mild euphoria when consumed in small quantities. - Britannica

I hope you enjoyed reading about my new experiences this past weekend. I am so glad I found a place closer to home to enjoy some fire performances. Such a cool little spot to visit.
