Hi friends!!
Yesterday was fathers day in the US, so we wanted to have a fun day with the kids. In the morning I took my youngest son skateboarding, afternoon I helped my oldest son to paint his room. And at night we decided to go watch the new Pixar movie, Lightyear, at the drive in theater. We haven't been there in a few months, and we love going there. We park the car with the back to the screen, open the back door, laydown the seats and use the back of the car as a bed with some pillows and blankets. I also bring a couple of chairs to put outside, as all of us don't fit in the back of the car.
We started going to the drive in when we moved here to San Diego. The drive in theater brings back a lot of memories for me. In Rio de Janeiro, where we used to live, I think there was only one drive in, located at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, that operated from 1966 to 1993. After that one closed, I think there were no other drive in theaters at all. So before going to the drive in here in San Diego, we haven't been to one in many many years. You can read a little more about the old drive in on this link here.
Here are some pictures of the South Bay Drive In, and as you can see, we got there almost at night, movie starts right after sunset at 8:30pm. Even though we brought some snacks (also sneak in a couple a beers 🤫), I bought a popcorn and a couple of churros at the snack shop.
The movie was awesome and the kids loved it!
This is my entry to the Show Us Your California contest, organized by @thesocalhive.
Hope you enjoy it!
See you next time!

Not long ago it was announced our last drive in movie theatre will close down shorttly and that made me a little sad really. It'll become houses or another commercial retail outlet or some such more important thing.
It's just a sign of the times I suppose, progress, but...is it progres? Maybe it's for the best, who needs wholesome family activities anyway? Most families are so disjointed and disconnected with each member with their face stuck in a mobile phone doing important things like counting how many likes they have on Facebook...Why have activities people can actually do together?
You're lucky to have a drive in theatre.
I know right! I was really happy to find 2 drive in theaters here when we moved. Been living here for about 5 years. Both are in areas that the real estate industry is still not so interested. This one in South Bay that we usually go, is always crowded, so I hope they can survive for long. It is a really cool family activity.
I recall my parents taking me back in the day...It was exciting and a lot of fun. Cheap for my parents too, which was good for them.
Congratulations @mengao, your post won 1st prize in this weeks

Excellent. I sent it to curangel for you.
Thank you!!! Really appreciate it!
I keep my community ticking along in line with my set rules, but am also very appreciative of good quality posts. Some like to argue with me when they get muted for not following the rules, it never goes well for them though.
Thanks for understanding and I hope I'll see you around again. Take a look at the posting guidelines pinned at the top of the community feed.
I understand. tbh I didn't read the rules completely.
I'll be around again. I saw some great posts here, will love to be part of it.
Excellent, and thank you for being a good sport.
Oh man this is awesome, I haven't been to a drive in in well over 10 years. I think your setup is perfect for maximum comfort and enjoyment. It must have been a great night. Thanks for sharing it with the community.
Thanks! We improve our setup every time we go. Now we need to get a small boombox with am/fm radio to listen to the movie. Since I sit on the chairs outside, I can't hear the car stereo very well.
Yes! A boombox will be great, you need to hear it all otherwise it just isn't the same. I don't even know if there are drive ins here anymore, I know a couple of the ones in Cape Town went bust ages ago. I must look it up, I'm sure my daughter would enjoy it.
Hope you get to go again soon, it's a nice family activity.
Very cool and fun! 😎
Yay! 🤗
