Balancing luxury and simplicity: three luxury items and three dispensable in my life// Weekend-Engagement-week #237

In life, there are many things in our lives that seem to be super important to us, and that we consider a great luxury for the comfort and satisfaction they bring us, without which our day-to-day would be a bit more bland and boring. But, just as there are those things that are essential for each of us to feel good, there are also others that, upon deep analysis, we realize we could easily do without without major consequences in our lives as they don't add much or any good to them.

That's why today, in this week #237 of Weekend-Engagement, I would like to share with you 3 of these things that I consider to be a luxury for me, and another 3 things that I believe I could do without.

••• Things that I consider to be a luxury for me •••

Firstly, I would like to talk about the things I consider a luxury in my life, perhaps not so much for the price but for how they make me feel and the positive effect they have on my mood, my routine, and my life in general. I won't tell you that my main personal luxury is the time I spend with my loved ones because that is too cheesy and it is something we all consider important, so it goes without saying. Instead, I want to tell you about other things that I don't consider so common that people might view as a luxury.

"Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise, it's not luxury." - Coco Chanel

• First Personal Luxury: My coffee cup and the coffee maker I use •

This is my favorite coffee maker and coffee mug.

I know that for many people this is something mundane and not considered a luxury since it's usually something that doesn't hold much economic value, but for me, it's different. I consider these things a luxury because I love starting my day with a good cup of coffee in the mornings when I wake up, and it gives me a wonderful sense of calm, along with a pleasant aroma, the convenience of preparing and drinking my coffee more easily, and it gives me some energy to start my day off right. I think it's something I couldn't do without, unless it's to replace them, but they are truly comforting to have in my life.

• Second Personal Luxury: My small collection of books •

As a lover of reading novels, stories, informational books, and anything related to reading, I have my own collection of books that I cherish. I consider this a luxury because in the area where I live, books can be quite expensive, but I also view it as a personal luxury because of the comfort it brings me to be able to read in the coziness of my home at any time I wish. I love how these books transport me to the stories within them and allow me to distract myself from my surroundings for a while.

• Third Personal Luxury: A device to listen to music •

Listening to music is something almost everyone does daily nowadays; they follow and admire their favorite artists, learn new songs, do tasks and chores with background music, work, meditate, and do many things while listening to music, whether it's ambient music, headphones, phone music, or a speaker. Music has become very important in the daily lives of many people, including myself. I also consider a great luxury all those devices and moments that allow us to have music at our fingertips... or ears. I really enjoy disconnecting from the world for a while when I put on my headphones and listen to music I love because it brings me peace, helps me release my emotions, puts me in a good mood, gives me energy, and overall has many more positive effects on me.

••• Things I Could Do Without •••

And well, I also want to talk about the things I feel I could do without without any major issues, things that may not be so important to me and simply clutter my life without adding any real positivity to it. Here, I don't want to talk about the typical stuff like bad habits and things everyone wants to get rid of, but about other things that others may find essential or maybe not so much, but for me, they are not important at all.

"It is not the quantity of things that makes life, but the quality of them." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

• First dispensable thing in my life: Lots of cosmetics •

These are the only cosmetics I use in my daily life.

Yes, I'm someone who enjoys wearing makeup and does so almost daily, but that doesn't mean I need to have thousands of different products at home. Currently, that's not the case anymore, as I've gotten rid of many of those things, but in the past, I used to have too many makeup products that I sometimes even had duplicates of and didn't even use. I liked having many of these things to show off to my friends and acquaintances; I had turned makeup collecting into a competition, but it wasn't something I used much or even liked all that much. I feel like I could live my day-to-day life with fewer than 10 makeup products

• Second dispensable thing in my life: The armchairs in my house •

My cats are almost the only ones who use the armchairs in my house.

I really like how the armchairs look in the living room in terms of aesthetics, but I consider them very unnecessary in my and my family's lifestyle. I feel that without armchairs in my house, it wouldn't make much of a difference as we almost never use them. Furthermore, they take up a lot of space. Of course, this is my personal point of view; perhaps my mother sees this differently. But for me, the armchairs in my house are dispensable and unnecessary.

• Third dispensable thing in my life: Old schoolwork •

My mom tends to keep the school assignments that my siblings and I have done in the past, as they hold sentimental value for her due to nostalgia. However, I consider this quite dispensable despite that. She has the habit of keeping all our schoolwork, and in recent years, I have also accumulated some of my own because I remember it was difficult for me at some point. I feel that I could, and should, do without them as they are not important and simply take up space in the house, being essentially sentimental junk.

I can understand keeping old-school books to a certain extent. I do it all the time and then eventually have to toss them, and wonder why I even bothered in the first place 😆

Coffee, books, and music are three of my favorite things! I can totally agree that they are luxuries, ones that make life so much more enjoyable!

Your 3 things you could do without made me grin- the cat on the armchair is adorable... maybe keep them just for her 😂
