It is my pleasure being a part of the Weekend-engagement Week 236. You are also invited to submit your entry. I am giving my response for the first question on the list which is this:
Things don't happen by magic, it takes many things including determination to make an achievement. What have you achieved by sheer determination, what steps did you take, how did you deal with setbacks and what did you learn along the way?
Success Demands Determination
There is no success by magic. Sometimes ago, still on this #weekend-engagement program, we were asked our views concerning hard work and luck. There is no success (worthwhile success; valid success) without hard work and determination. The mentality of magical success or luck is a mere illusion. It is a high level of self-deception to believe in luck and magical success against hard work and determination.
I Saw A Need
Some years ago, while working on my area of interest and potential, I discovered a need. The need was that we had scarcity of resource materials for the profession. The profession is that of teaching children our religious beliefs as christians. So, we were having difficulty getting resource materials. Then I discovered that I had some ability to write manuscripts for teaching children Bible lessons. I then conceived the idea of producing those manuscripts into booklets which I can distribute to other christian organizations who need them. It was not an easy mountain to submount because of high cost of funding.
The Steps I took To Achieve It
I started preparing the plan for the manuscripts I reasoned out the best formats to present the materials for easy adoption by churches. It took me some months to get the manuscripts ready. The drafted it into workbooks because teachers and parents appreciate learning materials that have work books. When the manuscripts were ready, started introducing my vision to those who could help me with the needed funds. I watched for churches who were in need of a Bible lesson for their children's classes.
Handling The Setbacks
The setbacks weren't something encouraging. I had jealousy and opposition from colleagues who thought that I was going to make money more than them. They wedged serious obstruction, hindering those who would have quickly bought into my idea and assisted me in the production. From the time I started working on the project, more than three years went by without any tangible progress. But I was determined, so I kept on pushing till finally I saw a church who agree to partner in the production. They released the funds and the materials were produced.
Lessons Learned
I learnt that I should push and make sure that I make my talents and potentials count. I come to discover that coordinated pursuit of any goal will yield the desired results.
