A Blazing Hot Weekend

There was a BIG ball of fire in the sky
Blinding my eyes
It caught me by surprise
... Among the clouds
I watched the sun rays dance

In the back garden
At a traditional old English Pub
Without a blink
I (com)pose and I pout...
My long-lost friend
It's good to see you
I said to the sun.

Sun-kissed all over
I sat on the wood
It felt so good
Basking in all its glory...
As I sipped my coffee

So, my weekend found me getting dolled up to go and witness an old friend tie the knot.
It was an all-day event that had us meet up with some other friends at an old traditional pub for a few pints before we made our way to the event.

It was my third English Wedding; Jovial and fun, as usual.
However, I felt weird getting dressed up in my vintage dress and ensemble, as all my days are now spent in casual gear on a boat and along the towpaths of the canals.

I sat in the garden with my small handbag, wishing that I had my handy toolkit, as my reading glasses lens fell out. At that moment, I realised just how accustomed I had come to having everything that I need at arm's length, in my tiny abode. Still, I improvised and replaced the fallen lens, so I would be able to read the setting on my camera to take those selfies.

My husband, friends, and I left the pub, and we walked a short distance along country roads with fields of creeping buttercups.

So beautiful!

The buttercups made me so calm, and in my head, I hummed the romantic lyrics of Come Away With Me by Nora Jones.
(Does anyone remember that song? I saw Nora perform live with her piano in Jamaica; Her voice was so soft and soothing, that I nearly fell asleep while standing).

We arrived at the grounds, but my camera lens went dead on me, so that was the end of my photographic delight.

Anyway, the Bride had a special request that no photos should be taken and released before her official ones, so with my camera lens broken, I had no choice but to sit obediently without taking any more photos.

The Wedding Ceremony was short and sweet, with loving messages, and affirmations of love and commitment to each other.

We then headed to the dinner; I had a creamy mushroom on crusty bread as a starter, a traditional English roast, and a refreshing apple tart with ice cream for dessert. I was fearful that I might burst the seams of my dress, but luck was on my side.

There was a duo band; Loud enough to wake a cemetery, so I was thankful that the location was set out in the middle of nowhere in the countryside. All guests were happy with their pre-ordered dish which was tasty.

After dinner, we headed to the auditorium at the same venue for another live band and dancing.

I'm not one to dance at wedding receptions, especially one where I only know a handful of people. I get enough enjoyment from watching everyone have a great time.
It was a long night, longer than my heart desired... as I'm a show your face, sit in the corner, and disappear, kind of person. However, I felt the love and happiness of the close couple, which was worth my effort to dress up in high heels... Something that I rarely do now.

I will send these photos to my parents because they have not seen me in a long time, and my mum loves to see me in a frock, and my dad loves to see me in red (He won't be any wiser as the colour of my dress is blood orange).

That's how I spent my Easter Saturday.

Was your weekend fun?

Location: Shearsbury, 6 miles from Foxton Locks.
We moored our boat (Badger) and ordered taxis to take us to and from the wedding.
Occasion: Kev and Lainy Wedding

Oh Lord! You look so stunning in the pictures. Red sure do looks good on you.
I love the poem! It was beautifully written and you played with words there.

I am glad you had fun during the wedding. But then this part got me cracked up 👇

so with my camera lens broken, I had no choice but to sit obediently without taking any more photos.

😅. I enjoyed reading your post. Love your dress! ❤️

Thanks for your nice reply 😊
My dad said to me many years ago. "I love to see you in red." He is an Aries, and I think he likes the dominant strong colour red.
I love yellow and orange though. I guess bright bold colours suit me. Pastels are ok, but I get energy from colours, and pastels just don't give me energy :)Hey @esther-emmanuel

About the poem, I thought it went well with the light mood of the post... Then I decided to give a little more story.
Yes, I do like playing with words 🙃😉

I saw that dress in the window of a vintage clothing store three years ago while I was on holiday in the UK. It was £12, and I was okay to pay that since it's a GUESS brand. I thought it was my lucky day:)

Bright colors will sure look good on you. Your dad got your colors right.

For the dress, we see those kind of dress once and if you don't buy it immediately, someone else will come and take it away. It made me remember a royal blue dress I missed buying a year ago, up till today I regret not buying that dress at that time and I can't help myself but wonder how I would have look in the dress.

Yes, my dad is my colour (Well a much darker shade:)

I know that feeling about the dress. I HATE that feeling.
I try not to buy clothes unnecessarily anymore. However, once I spot a unique item, I convince myself that it was "destiny" and good luck combined...That it was made for me, and that I came right to it...and I make sure to buy it then 🤣
That's what I feel about that dress in particular.

It's a shame you didn't get that Royal Blue dress, but I promise you, one day you will see another one that will suit you even better:)

Yes! I hope so too and I will not let it pass me by 😂, not ever!

Do take care! Much love ❤️

You look really beautiful and Happy😍, honestly your photographer deserves an Oscar because he is very keen to details and angles.

Really??😂😂😂 Oh my God
I guess good pictures are your thing 😊

Thank you! I prefer candid shots of myself, and I really enjoy taking candid shots of random people, especially doing street photography:)

🤣 Thank you! Your comment is funny to me because I just placed my camera on a wall and the sun was actually too hot for me to see anything. The timer just went at the appropriate times. So they are like candid selfies 🤣
I will take your compliment though 😊
Thanks for stopping by:)

What a lovely story Camille. The dress looks more red to me. The prose/poetry made the reading easy. Hope you folks enjoyed your photographs.

Haha! Thanks, Leebee:)
Yeah, sometimes I find prose short and easy too, so I'm glad you liked it!
Yes, the dress looks red in all the photos, but it's a bright orange (blood orange)...I'm kind of colour blind, but I love orange in all shades 😊
I trust you and family all had a lovely weekend!!

I also love the colour orange - and I'm sure it suits you very well.

what a beautiful dress, I like that striking orange color, it looks good with your color, I also like the natural setting. how nice that you enjoyed this weekend at that wedding.
best regards @millycf1976

Yes, it was a nice wedding and a great weekend, especially because the sun came out in all it's glory☀️
Thanks for your sweet comment:)Thank you so much @wendyth16.

I'm glad you got to go ❤️ It sounds like it was a long day, but worth it 🙌

Thank you! You got that right🙌... It was completely worth my sleep😌
Did you have an enjoyable Easter Weekend too?

Many thanks for the support, as always:)

What a nice place, too bad you couldn't continue photographing.
You look great in that color, you were radiant.
I was amused by your fear of tearing your dress because of the food 😂😂 fortunately it didn't happen.
My weekend was beachy, I should be sharing it here at night.

Thanks for your sweet comment 😊
Yeah, I had way too much to eat...not a good feeling.
I look forward to seeing your beachy experience. I haven't been to the beach in ages.
Have a nice day:)Hello @lisrl26,

It's lovely to have a reason to dress up and even better when the weather is great.

That is a red dress isn't it? 😵‍💫🥸

Yes, I was so happy that the weather was good. I no longer have appropriate boots for all occasions such as this elegant one... Although my feet were burning like hell in those slip-ons.

It's actually blood orange...so close to read, especially in photos depending on how the light hits it:)😅

You look blazing hot in your red dress!

The photo with the teacup makes you look like you're in a Bridgerton scene 😄

😊 Thank you:)
I have never watched that series, but I see what you mean 😁

Yay! 🤗

Beautiful photos Milly, you rock red. It sounds like it was a great weekend wedding. I remember Nora Jones, is she still making music? I'm so out of touch with the music industry.

Have a beautiful week ahead and thank you for sharing with us.

Hey Andy,
Thank you! Yes, it was a lovely weekend indeed:)
I don't know what became of Nora Jones... My obsession ended shortly after she started performing. That song stays with me forever though. It's so soft and beautiful😍
Have a great week ahead too:)

PS. I lied! I have been listening to that song on repeat all evening, and some of Nora's other tunes that I loved...😂...I will make Nora my Springtime artiste when there are "fields where the yellow grass grows knee-high."

It was a bonny wee frock and I loved the colour. It does sound that you had a cracking time. It is awesome when the weather plays ball for a wedding!
It must have felt a bit weird being on land so to speak for that length of time.
Also a sign that things are getting back to normal.
Your mushroom starter sounded yummy too.
I think you will have made your mum chuffed to bits seeing you in a frock👗

Yes, I was most pleased that the weather was good. COme to think of it, I've never seen a winter weather🤣...doesn't sound like the best plan to me...That marriage would have been cold from the start 🤣Thanks, @tengolotodo 😁

Yes...everything was yummy...other guests mentioned that the venue is not known for their great meals, but they were all surprised and impressed that they added a bit of spice to the meals.

That sounds like the venue took the time during Covid to learn how to cook!
It does sound a fantastic time you had:)

Very nice red dress.

Thank you!

You're welcome

...

Ehhh... I drove 11 hours Sun/Monday in horrible Easter traffic jams and deadly weather.

I would much rather have been in a red dress at a wedding. LoL (insert image of an old trucker in high heels here)

I must say. You def look better than I would in that dress. LoL

A nice quiet canal side, or pond side in my world, hammock would be the best spot to have been.

Here is my fave spot. Dress or No dress. It is where I always want to be...

But here we are out on the road today (Wendsday) making the best of it.

This comment made me chuckle!!
You look gorgeous in red, and that silky blond hair😉🙃😁

Lmao...

Hey.!!

That's not me...

I am waaaaaayyyyy more ruggedly handsome.

So handsome that ALL CATS LOVE ME.!!

Haha! I know that you're way better looking 🤣

Awwww... Jeeeesh.!

Now my face is as red as that dress.!!
