A Wide Beam...
Ok, I'll say no more!
Imagine this scenario by @galenkp from The Weekend community.
London, here we come!
I would hire a wide beam canal boat for hubby and I, with a couple of close friends, for cruising up and down the River Thames and Central London.
Wide beams have engines and are mobile, but you probably guessed it, right?
Wide beams are twice the width of narrowboats; impractical, and unsuitable for navigating and exploring along the narrow canals in England.
However, wide beams are perfect on wide rivers.
So, with $1000, my dream of a weekend in London, exploring museums, live entertainment, and sushi bar-hopping could become a reality.
To Enhance My Weekend Entertainment Splurge:
Away from the hustle and bustle of vibrant Central London, a city that doesn't sleep, we would relax onboard a spacious wide beam, taking in the best of what the city has to offer, from the waterfront.
London is a complete city that holds so much history, with something to see everywhere possible...and no, it would not be fun to visit London with an empty pocket.
Live Entertainment:
According to Wiki, London is the world's third busiest film production centre, so for good vibes, a night on the town to see a live comedy act would be on the cards.
Who doesn't like a good laugh, heh?
Museums
A trip to Madame Tussaud? Oh yay! This would be fun for the group to take photos next to their favourite actors, and celebrities.
Remember, it's not a regular weekend, right?
My palms would be well greased!
Sushi Bar Hopping
London is the perfect spot to experience world-class Sushi Bars outside of Japan.
So, we could visit Soho and Chinatown and eat and drink the finest, of all we can, on my bill.
Don't wake me up from this dream, ok!
Alas, we would spend the final hour on the stern of this hire boat, before going back to our realities.
Hello friend @millycf1976 Greetings, I will not wake you from your dreams, but I ask God to make it come true for you. Note: I thought your husband was the Helmsman on that ship. Greetings and blessings and may all your dreams come true. Amen.
The Sushi that you see in the photographs could be eaten by my wife last Friday because some friends invited us to eat. Receive a strong spiritual hug full of blessings, positive energy and lots of light.
Hello @marcosmilano71,
Ooh, la la! That sushi looks heavenly 😋
Yes, thank you so much for your blessings, I do hope my dream will come true :)
Big hugs to you both 🤗🤗
Interesting proposal for a different weekend and more with money available, it is very true that it is good to disconnect from reality, it is necessary, it is healthy, your weekend on that boat and touring places where you can eat sushi would be fabulous, I imagine the photos and anecdotes that you would share later.
Hehe! Thank you!
I had the same thoughts too.
I've explored the entire Central London on foot, so many times. I've always enjoyed the vibe on the river.
I think it would be absolutely fantastic being on a boat...I better get my magic wand out, now:)
My post was based more on food, hahaha.
I am gonna check it out, and the others too:)
It's a fun topic!
Who doesn't like to dream, heh?
This is a really dreamed weekend. I haven't been back to London since I was in my 20s and it's a place I'd love to go back to. And Sushi I can eat all day long.
Have fun in your dream getaway, hehe :)
Hey, thanks! 😆
Me too. I haven't explored Central London since my 20s. What a city, heh?
This really would be "the dream."
I've enjoyed Sushi Bars in London, more than I have in Asaka, or even Tokyo. I hope than whenever I return, I'll still be marvelled and feel the humbling, magical effect of everything the city has to offer:)
I hope you can go soon! At least you're closer than I am, hehe
And surely you'll still be marveled by everything the city has to offer. Maybe in a different way than when you were younger, I guess. But it sure is still a magical experience.

An itemised account? Seems legit. But...Might have to make it for only three people if I come along. I can eat a lot of sushi. Not that I'm inviting myself.
Or maybe I am?
Oh, you'd be more than invited 😁.
Maybe then we could forego an activity and have a sushi eating competition?
I have a long belly, and sashimi and sushi are my ultimate fav, so it would be the "Battle of the Guts"
This sounds like a good plan indeed...but be warned, sushi eating is my super power so yeah, get ready for a sushi eating walloping. I don't know if that's even a thing but whether it is or not, it's happening.
Are you ready for this?
I've been in training for years.
Hahaha! Training for the perfect miss, right? 🤣
...while I keep quiet and sushi on
Reminds me of someone I've seen at Sushi Train...Hmm...Oh yeah, me.
I have seen that wide beam on a few vlogs now.
You wouldn't know what to do with all the space after Badger🤣🤣🤣
Awesome weekend though, although I would skip the sushi, I still have nightmares from years ago, when drunk in a Japanese restaurant I ate a big diced cube of ginger by mistake🤣🤣🤣
🤣 You are so right. We won't know what to do with ourselves when we get a bigger boat, even if it's just a 40ft...
In a wide beam, we'd need a compass for directions 🤣
I used to wish for a wide beam years ago, but when I came and realised that most routes have narrow locks and narrow canals, I thought that I might as well get a butty or a barge.
Haha! that has happened to me with ginger too. It's fine if you love ginger I guess, so I didn't mind.
Sushi and sashimi 24/7 for me and I would never get bored.
Yea they are good for the rivers but not the canals, I have been looking at lengths of narrowboats and I know the magic number is 57 foot anything over that and you have trouble fitting in some of the locks.
Oh the Badger butty would be cool, Cam could put all his firewood in it 🤣
Ah you are a ginger lover so all good, yes well I will have Japanese again one day😁
Yes, nothing over 57ft.
I've been on a 33ft one that was just a little bigger than Badger, and it was full of character and unique. Been on a 54ft, and we walked away thinking that we didn't feel a substantial difference. It all depends on the layout and use of space.
Anything bigger than 57ft, and I think you need to evaluate if the lifestyle is really for you.
I do hope you'll give sushi and sashimi another try. They are some of the healthiest meals you could eat.
The Japanese 'cook' so well, that I even got carried away and ate snake... Something that if you knew me, you'd have sworn on your life that it was a lie!
Yes, you are so right, the layout and use of space is key, and you two nailed it with your rejigging of the Badger layout.
I see plenty in the 4o's that have great layouts and seem spacious and some 57 footers that just look a disaster, the interior colour seems to play a big part too of appearing spacious.
Never heard of sashimi, now you have me curious, snake I used to in Africa hehe, I see you are not a normal snake eater then 🤣
No, I have a morbid fear of snakes. It's so bad that just hearing the word, seeing one, and thinking about it could make me break out into Hives.
Therefore I was surprised that I ate snake and had no problem 🤣
They give me the creeps too, but not quite as bad as breaking out into hives...
Ok no more snake talk, and well done you!
