I must confess that I rue having missed the opportunity to post something for the one hundred and second weekend-engagement concept. You must forgive me ad I am new to this platform, and by extension this page. Were I aware, I would have written a post on the invention question. Now, what is that one thing I have always wanted to invent? I have been wanting to make a device that is capable of harnessing clean energy that is accessible to everyone for free.
And though I am not a tree-hugging hippie, I have come to realize that the need for clean low cost or even free energy is a matter of global survival. Even the most partisan among us will find it hard to argue that non-renewable energy is anything but non-renewable. What are we going to replace it with when the time comes? For while I applaud the advances being made in things like solar and wind energy, I doubt that these will be sufficient to replace fossil fuels. Plus it is said that the process of extracting the minerals used to manufacture things like solar panels and wind turbines is at times as messy as the sources they are trying to replace. In fact, it is being reported that child labor is often used for mining some of the minerals to manufacture ‘renewables’.

The reality is that our energy needs will continue to grow. Our fossil fuel reserves will not. A device to harness energy from the environment would eliminate the need for our current extractive industries. But not only that, it would help to lift many millions out of poverty. In addition, it would stem or even end much of the environmental degradation that is currently taking place globally, this is from oil spills to mountain top removal, to fracking. Such an invention would make these our current energy sources relics of a bygone era.
That said, it would be remiss of me to ignore that so many of our current conflicts are over energy, especially oil. I am not going to assume that this device would end all the wars in the world, but I suspect the number of conflicts globally would be significantly reduced if people could access free unlimited energy.
Those who control the energy, control the world. Based on what I have been observing over the last two decades it is evident that those at the helm are not necessarily driven by a need to make the lives of the rest of us better. Greed and power lust seems to be the motivation behind so much of what is taking place globally. Taking power away from the gluttonous and the power-hungry would not be such a bad thing.

So this is my pipe dream. A device to give humanity free clean energy, which by extension would wrest power away from the hands of oligarchs who continue to run roughshod over all of us just to make an extra buck.
In closing, I must admit that I suspect that such a device has already been made and is locked up in some vault somewhere. As Nikola Tesla said, a device that will give us free energy will never be allowed on the market. Still, I dream.

Great post, I agree with you on all fronts and I too have a suspicion that what your dream consists of has been jetosoned to a very big safe somewhere (probably underground) and the globalists have thrown away the key.
Nicholas Tesla was WAY before his time. He apparently invented a car that could run on energy pulled from the atmosphere and when he tried to market it, they asked him "where do you put the meter on it?" they told him to jump off a cliff or some such because they couldn't capitilize on it.
Would be nice wouldn't it?

It would be nice to see humanity put aside greed and ego and all work collectively to move in the same direction. I wonder, do you think that could happen? History of mankind shows it cannot, generally and sustainably. What do you think?
