My parents did not have television hahaha we are twelve siblings as you understand there was not much budget for such a big family, but my mom is a seamstress so she made our clothes, I remember that in advance she would buy scraps of fabric for each of us, after she came home from work she would sew until late at night making our clothes she would call us one by one to measure them and then she would keep them until Christmas because it is tradition to wear them for the first time, those were moments of happiness for me.
My mom never bought a Christmas tree, she sent us to look for any branch that had a shape, it was a competition to see who could bring the best tree, I was happy if mine won, the same happened to my brothers, my mom made a preparation with blue soap because that's how it's called, she covered the branches to make it look like snow, she let it dry until it hardened, she put it in a milk can lined with wrapping paper and placed it in a strategic place in the house, the decoration was a team work, everyone put the ornament they wanted, even the ones that were made at school.
The biggest gifts were for the little ones, they were given to my dad at work, the older ones only had details under the tree for Christmas, some were not happy but the situation was difficult, my mom made an effort to make us happy at Christmas, I remember that every December 25th she took us to the square to play, she let us run while she watched us.
After living such a limited but happy childhood over the years I understood that Christmas is not about expensive gifts or ostentatious meals, it is about being happy with the little or much you have, sharing with your family, Christmas for me is about celebrating life with the ones I love, when my brother was getting out of his situation with his motorcycle we stopped to have a soda I told him be thankful that you are standing healthy with your family, the rest are passing things I do not judge my parents they did what humanly possible to give us a happy Christmas that is what I want my children to learn.
This is my participation in the weekend commitment that week after week my dear @galenkp proposes us happy holidays to everyone
