Want to know a little bit about me?

GalenKP's weekend experience topics are all about YOU or me, whatever. So, on a whim I decided I could write up a little bit for it.

  • Choice one: A wine tasting tour or brewery tour? Which would you choose and why? Use your own photos.

That's an easy answer from me. Wine wins every time. That is not to say that I wouldn't do a brewery tour. Because I'm curious and wouldn't mind learning about about them. Also, hubby is a big craft beer fan and he would enjoy it for both reasons. Me, I would be the driver if we were to do a brewery tour and he could taste all the beers he would want to.

Wine tastings is a different story. Basically, we'd need a driver - LOL. We both like wine and have been doing many wine tastings together. Mostly in Europe though. We have done one or two with the family in California and went to Sonoma driving from one winery to the next and tasting wines. There's some great wines there but also freakin' expensive!

Speaking of wines and knowing where our host lives - while I lived in Australia in Victoria I frequently went on weekend roadtrips with friends without too much of a plan, driving back roads stopping and checking out places we noticed while driving. This was in the mid to late 90s so not a case of looking up trips into each and every detail on Google like you do today. It was more of an adventure of sorts. We certainly had a lot of fun and did stop at quite a few wineries in the VIC wine region. Sadly, I did not make it to South Australia which is famous for their wines. My favorite tawny port came from there, I don't remember the name anymore because I couldn't get it anywhere, so I wiped my memory and try enjoy the ones I can get.

So, yeah, wine it is.

  • Choice two: Camping in the woods or holidaying in a city hotel? Which would you personally choose and why? Use your own photos.

Could it be glamping in the woods? That would certainly sway my opinion somewhat towards the woods. If it's just a sleeping bag or tent - nope, no thank you. That is too much nature for this city (suburbs) girl. All the bugs and creepy crawlies - brrrh. Now imagine maybe some adverse weather and no facilities. No, sadly, I have to say no. I would absolutely love experiencing nature during the day but come sunset - I'm outta here!

On the other hand, just a city hotel is also not my thing 100 %. I do like weekend trips to check out a specific city, walk around the city and explore it, architecture, culture, restaurants etc. for that a city hotel is perfect. But after two or three days, it gets boring.

If I had to choose, I'd probably play it safe and choose the city hotel.

  • Choice three: Live in the Middle East or United States of America? (These are your only two choices) Which would you choose and why? Use your own photos.

I'm going to be boring with this one. I live in the United States of America now, by choice. So given the two choices, I'd stay here. There's a lot of things I don't like here but even more that I do like. I'm sure it is the same with any other country. I'd certainly be interested to visit the Middle Eastern countries but it is such a different culture that moving there would not be an easy thing.

  • Choice four: Professional success or personal happiness? (Assume you can only have one) - Which would you choose and why? Use your own photos.

Another easy one: Personal happiness any time. This is all about the saying you can't buy love with money. Professional success is great and can do tons to boost your self confidence and achieve even more but it does not necessarily lead to personal and consistent happiness.

I know this from personal experience. For most of my life I was pretty career driven, hmm, not really driven because it wasn't something that I actively pursued, yet, it happened, to some degree. I am no high-flying CEO or C-suite anything but I have had my successes. These days I am content where I am and am trying actively to balance my personal life and interests better with work. I still work too much, too many long hours, I guess it got somehow ingrained into me but - I'm working on it.

All in an effort to achieve and maintain my personal happiness.

  • Choice five: Own a dog or a cat - Which would you choose and why? Use your own photos.

Been there, done that - both of them and I love both. If I were by myself again I would definitely get another cat. And maybe a dog, too, but definitely a cat. I'll never forget my Cassie. I mentioned her before. I got her in Australia from where I then brought her to the USA and then back to Germany and Switzerland. She traveled the world with me. It has been a long time but I still miss her dearly.

Since hubby is extremely allergic to cat hair it is much more likely that we will get a dog, maybe when we retire. Until then, too much work and too much travel does not mix well with having a dog.

  • Choice six: Visit an art gallery/museum or play mini-golf? - Which would you choose and why? Use your own photos.

This one depends entirely on the company I am with. Playing mini golf can be a ton of fun with the right bunch of people but it can also be boring as hell if e.g. you're too far ahead or too far behind everyone else. Then it can become very lonely and boring.

Having said that, I think I'd go for art gallery/museum. There are so many different choices of either one that I am sure, no matter what, we could find something for everyone. Also, if by yourself in a city or anywhere, museums are a wonderful way to spend time and to learn something. Museums are also a great way to escape bad weather - LOL.

I love both art and museums, in fact, hubby and I have visited so many together while we were living in Europe - crazy interesting stuff. Like here, we visited the light cruiser USS Little Rock while we were visiting Buffalo, NY a few years back. Bad panorama photo but great museum and history.

And there you have it. Now you know a little more about me - if you made it to the end of this somewhat lengthy post.

Till next time!

Have a great rest of your day!

Wait what .. how did I miss you loved in Victoria? I do have a terrible memory so maybe I did know that
.. crazy

It has been such a long time... it has also been a very good time. I'm sure I mentioned it here or there but unless you read every single post you'd miss it, so... no worries. First I lived in Essendon and then in Williamstown right by the beach, I worked close to the airport in Tulla 😀

Very interesting. If I ever get a #weekend-engagement weekend again. I might participate. Grrrrr... I will never catch up!!

Cassie is Majestic. I will find time to search out your postings about her. Travelin cats are the best. And I enjoy their life stories even after they have passed. Gone but never forgotten is real to me.

Or you can drop me a link in a reply here. Hint hint. Save me some time. I have so little of it.

Hey I rescued a famous cat years ago. Here are the links if you find time to read em.

Catch up game is no fun, just start fresh when you find time and energy for it.

Cassie - don't waste time, I don't think I have blogged about her here on Hive. I looked up a post on my website and, sure enough, teared up reading it. Damn' it has been twenty years by now but she was my partner in crime during one of the best times of my life.

I'll have to cme back and read the posts later - now I got to hurry to work, already late.

well now I don't have to write this post cuz your answers are pretty much mine!! LOLL

Oh, come on, the deadline has passed but you can still answer the questions. You know that you want to... I know I want to read them

I too would have to choose wine over beer any day of the week. Those spontaneous glasses are the best. I could not get my wife into a tent either, if there is no hair dryer socket, she isnt staying!! LOL I would struggle without aircon too though...

They sure are right? Well, I can definitely do without a hair dryer and aircon but - bugs, uggh!

Yes, bugs are the worst. God certainly has a sense of humour.

This felt like... 🙂 let's see, let's shake this whole questionnaire out. Done. Clear and precise.

😂

Hahaha - yeah, I know, Galen usually doesn't like this too much and encourages to choose one of the options but for me they all tied in nicely into one little package.

😃 I like it.

An excellent post and writing idea. Got me so enthused that it seemed fun to join in with a post of my own. Thanks for sharing the idea and the deeper insights to you and your choices.

I saw, that's awesome. Galen posts these writing suggestions each Friday and, let's just say, they're always all over the place. I hadn't joined in a while but always enjoy reading them and a few answers and this time the options tickled my fancy.

Those are a lot of questions but easy to answer based on your personality 😀

Yes, you're right, the answers did come quite easily.
