WE #100 - Belated Congrats!

in Weekend Experiences3 years ago (edited)

I know, I know, I know @galenkp 's WE party is long over and I don't care that I'm too late. I didn't want to miss congratulating him and the Weekend community to

100 Weekend-Engagement posts - 🎊🎂 congratulations!!! 🍰🎉

What an achievement... I truly wonder how your topic ideas never run dry. Have you started recycling yet? 😆

Like every Friday morning I read Galen's WE post and thought to myself yup, totally have to do a post on this one with congrats and all - it's the right thing to do, since I have participate quite a few times and I was going to do a post.

Well, Friday was a bit of a day as I said good bye to my co-worker and second who left the company for a great opportunity. There were things to do and then we all had a very long lunch together and then - pretty much the day was over. Saturday I spent most of the day drawing, you'll see it in a future post, before going grocery shopping and then making and having dinner before watching a film (The Adam Project) with the hubs. And on Sunday I prepared / wrote yesterday's blog post before spending the whole afternoon playing NMS with the hubs - I know gaming like that is pretty much a waste of time but hubby was feeling a bit down so playing with him together improved the overall mood immensely. So - time well spent in my books.

Yeah, but just like that the weekend was over and I hadn't written a single word for WE #100. So, here I am today, answering all four prompts. Just because I can 😊.

I hope you guys had a great party!

💯 Engagement on Hive

What does engagement on Hive mean to you and how do you do it? What methods or strategies have you used and what results have you had? Do you feel it has been helpful to build your account, have you enjoyed it or do you feel you'd rather not have to do it?

To me engagement here on Hive means that I scroll through my feeds (personal, community and lists) daily to pick and choose which posts to read and then actually read the post, not skim it. More often than not I will also leave a comment, one that is more than something like nice post or great photos. Sometimes, not very often, that will even spur a reply by the OP. I guess you could call that a strategy but in my mind it is simply the social side of blogging or - engagement. And I definitely enjoy it otherwise I would not be here.

Does engagement build my account? Absolutely. No matter how long you have been on Hive but especially when you are new or new-ish on Hive the only way for older Hivians to find you is 1) if you post in communities and 2) through commenting a) on their posts and b) by replying back on comments you may have received on your own posts.

I still see a lot of people who don't do the replying back to comments on their own posts and feel that it is a rather poor choice. Yes, this may become a bit of work especially if you're a big account but if you're just starting out IMO - always reply.

Hmm, and since money rules for many people (😤 - still thinking of my recent rant post...) I should probably mention that comments do earn you Hive as well. But in my view that's beside the point of being on a social blogging platform. Anyhow...

💯 Doing it differently

What would you do differently if you could start your Hive account from scratch today? What changes would you make to how you present yourself, the actions and activities you have undertaken and methods and processes you've employed. Given that change, what do you feel your account would look like in 100 weeks from today?

I honestly wouldn't do much differently than what I did so far except start sooner, comment more and try harder to be consistent in posting regularly. It's the one thing I struggle with most. I guess it comes down to my own choices and priorities.

Hive has become a regular and important part of my life but so are family and friends and my health and art. All of these demand their part of my free time and I am still working on finding the right balance for me.

💯Going back to the start

If you could go back and give yourself some advice before starting on Hive what would it be and why?

Oh, oops, I guess I answered that one already in the second question: Post regularly good content, comment a lot, always reply to people commenting, find new and interesting people to engage with and stop putting your Hive earnings into Splinterlands! 🤣 LOL

💯 500 words on my #weekend-engagement concept

In 500 words or less explain what you like, or don't like, about the #weekend-engagement blog prompts concept I have devised and present each week.

Consistency - me likes! I know that Friday morning when I open Hive the first thing in my feed will be Galen's WE post with prompts to write about. They make me think and ponder if I could put something together in the short span of time and participate. I honestly do this each Friday. Makes you wonder why I don't participate that often, right?

Well, first and foremost I am a pretty slow writer. I am also not very skilled in putting my feelings into words on paper and, let's face it, most of the time Galen's prompts go fairly deep and I am not the kind to give a superficial answer. i.e. if I don't have a good answer, I'd rather not post at all.

Personally, I like and prefer the blogpost prompts format to the previous commenting format because it nudges me to write and publish a post. The comment threads in the prior format were extremely entertaining but totally getting out of hand and thus pretty horrendous. I have no idea how you kept up with those, there seemed to be a lot more engagement back then compared to today.

Today, theoretically, this kind of back and forth banter of replies could happen on everyone's blog post though, right? Yet it is not. Why? IMO because it takes effort and time from everyone, and commenting on posts by people you have never engaged with as opposed to engaging with Galen who will always reply to your comment 😜.

I'm as guilty as the next. Take today, I am still at work, writing this during lunch. So I'll likely publish the post and then go back to work and won't check out other participants' entries. I don't really like doing that. All I can say is that I am trying to be better at it but I don't always succeed.

Now let's check - hah - made it! Less than 500 words on this last one incl. this sentence 😁

So, now let's have some cookies or cake! I thought this painting would kind of fit this post. I painted it a few years ago when I was (rather un)successfully experimenting with trying to paint chibis. Oh well... I still kind of like it...

Have a great rest of your day!

Cheers,

p.s. oops - forgot to hit publish earlier - stupid work! LOL

I don't mind that it's late, the prompts are there for people to write at any stage, the time line refers only to the wrap up post and the small rewards I forward to some.

I appreciate you doing this excellent post and like the points you raise and how you share your personal experiences which was what I was hoping people would do.

One comment in particular stood out and that's right at the very end...I'll quote it:

Stupid work.

Yep, totally!

Leave it to you to find the most meaningful and elaborate part of my post to quote it - hahaha.

Thanks, Galen, for the blog prompts and for being around!

Yes, my brain hones in on the truly important things.

Thanks, Galen, for the blog prompts and for being around!

They'd have to build a wall, surround it by a moat full of box jelly fish and crocodiles, have arches on the battlements, a force field and trebuchet flinging piles of shite at me...to keep me away from Hive.

Look out for a slight brand refresh and minor name change to the concept this week...

I noticed that a while back

Yes, my brain hones in on the truly important things.

And - didn't you forget something? 🐍🐍🐍 SNAKES 🤣

Bloody snakes, you and bloody snakes. You like seeing me cry?

Of course, I don't, nope, no thank you, no snakes for you. Although it reminds me that I could do a follow up pet post :)

Get that post done...Just keep those snakey bastards away from me. 😉

I love that you answered all the prompts.
One great thing about the weekend engagement is that if people want to engage then there are plenty of people here who will oblige.
You nailed it in so far as new to hive hivers have to comment and reply in communities and on other posts to get noticed.
Enjoy work and have a great week!

Honestly, I thought they all went hand in hand, so it was easy. Also, I didn't have to make a choice 😝.

Yeah, engagement is a voluntary thing and, I guess, also a mindset. You either like being social here on the blog or you don't. I do like it but time constraints are holding me back from making bigger strides. But that's o.k. it's a choice and it is mine.

Thanks for stopping by and you have a great week, too!

oh yes time constraints, I know what you mean, I do my engagement in fits and spurts, but it is what it is.
I believe it is a mindset, but a mindset that can be trainable, engaging is voluntary and that is why we don;t insist on it in this community, but obviously encourage it.
Thanks for your comments and have a great one:)

Yeah, going in spurts is the only way for me to achieve some kind of consistency here i.e. 'consistency in spurts' - LOL

lol you have consistency in spurts and I am just consistently inconsistent🤣🤣🤣
Wishing you a wonderful weekend :)

Hahaha - consistently inconsistent totally works, too.

Have a great weekend! It's WE again

hehe yes it is and thank you!
