Hello Hivernauts
This weekend I went to visit the Metropolitan Cathedral of Ciudad Bolivar. It is located in the Plaza Bolivar in one of the highest points of the historic center of Ciudad Bolivar in Venezuela.
It was a short visit in which I took several pictures to share with you and tell you a little more about the historical tourist attractions that my city has.
The Plaza Bolivar and its monumental Metropolitan Cathedral, are the central point of the patrimonial tourist circuit that runs throughout the historic center of the city. This religious building is the emblem of the colonial architecture that prevailed at the time when the Spaniards settled in these lands.
Its official name is Catedral de Santo Tomás Apóstol, better known as the Cathedral of Ciudad Bolívar by all of us, and it is the seat of the Archdiocese of Ciudad Bolívar. The cathedral was built in 1790 with the creation of the Diocese of Guayana.
With an impressive neoclassical style, the cathedral tower rises to a height of 44 meters, while the central nave is 26 meters high. This Catholic temple is an important place of worship for the Catholic Church in Venezuela and especially for all Bolivarenses.
Inside you will find pieces of art that evoke the different Christian celebrations such as the representation of the life, passion and death of Jesus. A central altar that reaches the ceiling and dazzles visitors and parishioners.
At this time of the year, to celebrate the nativity, they decorate the interiors of this beautiful cathedral with several nativity scenes. Visits are allowed and everyone is welcome to visit these spaces, take pictures and even record videos while touring the entire place.
On this occasion I was not able to interview the priests and especially Father Valladares, the priest in charge of this church and his parish. I would have liked to know a little more about the historical secrets hidden in these old walls.
I will continue to visit this sacred catholic temple to unveil its mysteries and share them with you as part of my weekend tours.
