The last pop-up in Molave street for the year was held one week ago. For this Saturday however, they decided to hold a garage sale. Though there is food and drinks available, the highlights were the random pre-loved items up for grabs. Amongst the things for sale were clothes, funko pops, portable grill, vinyl records, and many more.
We started off on the far end of the street where we scanned through vintage t-shirts. I am very enthusiastic about these types of shirts and I like the idea of collecting them, but I just can’t picture myself wearing them. However, if I see one that I really like, I would’ve got it. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a t-shirt. I was disappointed because they were in really good quality.
Where I am from, pre-loved items are called, “ukay-ukay” and that term usually refers specifically to clothing. Now that thrifting is a very popular scene, it’s great to see a variety of items that can cater to the needs and interests of different people.
After looking through all the stalls, we stopped for a snack break. Despite today being a garage sale, there was still pizza available (as it should) and we got a slice. As we ate our pizza, we reflected on what a good day it was.
Pop-ups like these are very important in creating a community by building a sort of togetherness. Coming here today made me realize how different our interests are. I may think that an item may be impractical and holds no value, but it was valued in the past and there is someone in the future that would value it as well. However bizarre or eccentric your interests may be, there are places where these interests are welcome and we are free to find people of similar interests.
I have been to MCM a few times and I am glad that I finally got to share this experience. On regular weekends, there are more choices of food and snacks, lots of handmade things, tarot readings- think Etsy, but on the street. Sometimes, there is even a DJ. On the last pop-up of the year, I didn’t go, but I heard it was probably the biggest. I can’t wait for what next year could bring to this community.
This was my weekend. I am really an enthusiast for places like these and I like going not necessarily with an intention to purchase something, but just to check out what it could offer. I say it’s a weekend well spent.
How was your weekend?
I hope you had a great one and I hope you enjoyed reading my blog about MCM garage sale. What would you like to find in a garage sale?
