At a point In my life, I had to fav the month of December because of the events associated with it. December 24th, 25th, 26th, and 31st have always been unforgettable moments In my life since I was younger.
You see, the Christmas period is seen as a time when family members living far away from each-other travel down to their family houses to spend the moment together. This is to say Christmas isn’t only anticipated by kids but the whole family as well.
It should already be known by now that Christmas is my favorite celebration. So, in this blog post, I will be writing on why it’s my favorite and how I prepared for it.
Firstly, the most common trend before and during Christmas in my hometown is “Christmas clothes”, as it’s always the first thought on every kid’s mind when the month of December approaches. Even before the month of December draws near, some families would have taken their children shopping for Christmas clothes. The term “Christmas cloth” is widely used in Nigeria to refer to the best cloth owned/bought by someone for that year. In other words, the Christmas period is generally known as a festive period when people get themselves the most beautiful set of clothes.
Secondly, aside from shopping for Christmas clothes, a firecracker is another reason why the Christmas period would be memorable to any Nigerian kid worldwide. The sounds of Firecracker from left to right are signs that the Christmas period is near.
During the first week of December, I and my brother @justinpencilz would have bought packs of firecrackers for the week. I could still remember how we tried making the sound louder than usual by throwing it inside a bottle, inside a pipe, and going to an extent of igniting more than one at once.
Fact!: As kids, we never called it firecrackers but Bangers.
Thirdly, I’m always grateful for the best memories the season brings. Family is everything, and meeting with family members is one of them. My aunties and uncles from different parts of the country and sometimes from abroad visit home for Christmas. I wasn’t just always glad for seeing them after a long time but also for receiving Christmas gifts from them.
Imagine having 7 siblings who visit home for Christmas. I receive plenty of gifts during this period I must confess😀
Lastly, My family made sure we went to church on Christmas eve. The church service only lasts for 1hr:30mins. We always go as a family and back home the same. On our way back, families that didn’t attend the church service usually light up the street with Christmas lights and firecrackers. You can imagine how the whole city would look like if some families went to church while the others are on the street with firecrackers rejoicing. -It’s always fun.

On Christmas day, my mom and my female elders always made sure they have prepared meals for the family. Around 12pm or before then, the whole family members would have eaten. After the meal, I and @justinpencilz would then dress up in our "Christmas cloth" to go have fun with our mates.
The 26th of December is Boxing Day which means the day to exchange gifts. I don’t think this is really a thing as I never got any gift from my mates 😂
There are other festive seasons in the year but Christmas happens to be my favorite because of the fun, gifts and it’s always a perfect time to be with the family as one.
