For this weekend's adventure, we took a small road trip across the Mississippi River to check out Great River Bluffs State Park. Between all the prairie and wildflower posts of late, we decided to visit an area that is known for some majestic views of the Mississippi River Valley. Everyone was excited, aside from Ms. Mabel, who we had to leave home. We hate to do it, but she gets extremely excited when other dogs are around.
The Minnesota state park is located on top of a nearby bluff. It's a very nice park; lots of camping spots too for us to return to in the future. If you love prairie vistas and geographies, this is the place to go. If you are in the area, that is...
The trees in this area are incredible; birch trees, pine trees, oak trees...lots of trees. Fortunately, there are plenty of interpretive signs in the park to assist those interested. I'm a nerd when it comes to this stuff, and can't get enough of them:
The real gem of the hike is the stretch to what is known as King's Bluff. It's part of a scientific area and features additional views of the river and other bluffs. I was excited to take some photos of the valley...Hattie however was more into looking at acorns, animal holes, and walnuts on the trail.
Don't worry...this post isn't just about signs in the woods...real pictures will be here shortly, I think...
After some minor complaining, a few bug bites, and a pouch break, we finally made it to King's Bluff. As it is the area is a scientific area, we choose to leave the BOB behind and leg it in. Or I should say, have to carry our daughter if she complains. Hey, but the views were worth it!
And here is another sign for you "fans of signs," too....
The regional famous Queen's Bluff is there in the background. I'd love to be able to hike this bluff at some point, as it's very steep. It almost looks like a vertical mountain when you view from the highway below this view.
Yet again, another easy enough #engagetheweekend adventure. Taking it all in while the weather is nice; September is beautiful in this area, and don't fret...plenty more photos of the Driftless will continue to make their way to Hive!
Thanks for stopping by and share our most recent weekend adventure. Hopefully, everyone else had a wonderful weekend too, and the week is off to a great week!
