WE81 : A Photo Upon the La Crosse

For this weekend's fun, I decided to go with option three for the #weekendengagement topic. I had to think about this one quite a bit today. I had a few pieces of art I could have shared; I also had a fun creative write I could have put to word on the blockchain, but I thought it best to share this photo with my Hive friends.

So what is the photograph above about? I took this photo in the spring of 2021 whilst in the midst of another quarantine. My daughter and I were on a hike in our local marsh, and we stopped to throw sticks into the La Crosse river from the bridge above. It's a thing we always do when we walk to the old footbridge. Sticks, sticks, sticks, and more sticks...we always collect a bunch of sticks and then throw them into the river below to watch drift away. It's always the little things in life that become rituals of substance. At least they are to me.

What I love about this photo is that it captured an innocent moment between the two of us. With all the chaos in the world at the time and the uncertainty we had every time someone sneezed or had a fever and was forced to stay at home while awaiting COVID tests, this was a moment that will forever live with me. Hattie, my three-year-old daughter at the time, is to my left with her arms resting on the bridge. I'm to the right of her and taking photos of our shadows on the murky water below. It was a moment of peace and normalcy while we are out and about, killing time for the day. Hattie was just being Hattie, and casually watching the river below. I'm just happy I was able to share the moment with her (and take a photo of it too, of course!)

So there is one image that I thought best to share. Thanks for taking a peek; and Merry Christmas everyone!
