A question for you - is it normal for some kids to not listen to instruction at all and just wander around the stage?
It seems the "at any cost" mentality runs rampant through society at the moment. It is like we are all dictators.

If the recital is too much for whatever developmental stage they're at, yes. The last couple of dance recitals I saw with preschoolers in it, they had the most basic routines and their dance teachers on stage with them so they could follow along because expecting some of them to remember everything at that age is a bit much.
