My Ideal Weekend!

Here's my entry for the Ideal Weekend Posting Contest. Wish I was there!

Setting

My ideal weekend will be spent with friends and family, at an exquisite beach waterfall, surrounded by forest.

We’ve all had people come and go in our lives. Sometimes, it was just time for the friendship to come to an end. Others, there may have been a family dispute of sorts, which created some distance between you.

In my scenario, they’re all there, and it is while we are all at our most connected, that we spend a magical weekend together.

Let’s Go!

Friday Night

As is typical South African, we’ll kick the weekend off with a braai (BBQ, for those that haven’t heard of a braai yet).

We’ll drink, braai and socialize well into the evening, while the kids play and swim in the water, unable to sink, of course. This is my ideal scenario, so kids can float on water, haha. After plenty of fun, music and laughs, we’ll all retreat to our own cozy cabin, with a lovely warm fireplace at the bedside.

Saturday

Everyone will wake up refreshed… hangovers don’t exist! We’ll be met with a glorious sunny morning, with a Full English Breakfast to get the day started.

Thereafter, those that want to hang around by the natural pool, will hang around whilst the rest of us go fishing. We’ll catch our meal for the evening, whilst canvasing in-between the rocks for shellfish to compliment it all.

By early afternoon, it’s time to relax a little at the cabin, sipping on some freshly brewed coffee, whilst enjoying the smells, scenes and sounds around. Whiffs of pine, chirping birds and the generous laughter of kids fill the background as we snack on some fresh fruit, biscuits and cheese.

As night falls, and the magical sunset fades away, it’s time to get the fires fired up. A beautiful seafood extravaganza is on display. We all sit around, chatting, laughing, drinking and enjoying the freshest Mother Nature has to offer. Complimented with warm sourdough bread, handpicked greens and condiments to suit everyone, it’s simply unbeatable.

Thereafter, everyone enjoys the sparkling, natural pool, filled with beautiful lights emanating from the creatures therein.

Sunday

It’s time to take a hike up the mountain, deeper into the forest. Animal sightings are plenty, colorful birds flutter about and we find an array of edible mushrooms, flowers and herbs along the way.

At the end of the hike, we’re all quite hot, and met with a large, sparkling mountain pool. The water is crisp and cold. The perfect way to cool down after the hike. Small waterfalls are littered about and yes, the kids float in this water too.

When we get back to the cabins, we prepare our newfound edibles for a light lunch, with some leftover fish from the night before.

Sunday evening is a magical ending to a beautiful weekend. We go snorkeling in the sea, with glowing fish, coral and seaweed all around. The color spectrum is phenomenal. The water is calm, clear and warm enough for a bathing suit.

After all the activity of the day, our appetites are ready for a final round, which consists of a combination of grilled, fried and slow-roasted seafood and meats, served with sides of your choice.
