Weddings are one of the biggest events in my country. I think the only event that can rival weddings is the burial ceremonies of elderly persons. During weddings, it is customary for the guest to be given gifts by the couple's families hosting the wedding, and the guest also gives the new couple gifts, which is a huge practice.
One of the main attractions of a wedding party in my country is that all the invited guests are given food, and sometimes they are also given food takeaways. But apart from feeding the guests, the couple and their families share gifts that act as souvenirs for the matrimonial ceremony. These come in different shapes and sizes. And even though I'm not a social person and rarely attend weddings, I have heard of funny wedding gifts that will surely crack you up.
I think one of the funniest wedding souvenirs would be a keg of petrol (aka gas). Why was that given? I live in a country that produces oil but doesn't refine its oil and has to import refined petroleum products from other countries, and sometimes fuel gets scarce, especially when a price increment is about to happen. So in this wedding, which I got to see in a viral video, the host was sharing kegs, which contained petrol to their guests.
A lot of people reacted differently to the video, especially since it came at a time when people found it difficult to get gasoline. The video didn't sit right with the government due to the high volatility of petrol, and they arrested those in charge of the wedding.
Another funniest wedding souvenir would be the one I heard from a friend who told me he had attended a wedding where condoms were distributed to the guests. I find it hard to believe, because what the heck? It is very funny, but I think it isn't totally a bad gift 😂. Why?
I think my country is dealing with a population explosion, and maybe it is a way for the host to remind the guest to control the population and prevent the spread of any sexual disease. Well, the truth is that I might never know the motive of their action, but sure, it is perhaps the funniest souvenir I have ever heard given at a wedding party.
