Love your responses, I agree we are all pretty ignorant when it comes to the lives of others. We do tend to get pretty wrapped up in our own lives.
With the quote, yeah, pain is really what opens us up to life, to understand it more. Love as well of course, but the more pain you experience, the greater your capacity for love that's what I believe.
I answered the one about the media, very similar views to you ad of course I agree that children are the best people on the planet.

Your words always make me smile! I totally agree that the pain we experience deepens our capacity for love— I find it comforting that we get these little gifts of beautiful duality.
