I have a very healthy mistrust of the media and the news. I gave up watching the news, many years ago and I haven't looked back. For one the news is pretty damn depressing. I'm well aware that there is a lot of shit happening in the world and I think it is important to be informed. But with all that, there is also a lot of good things happening in the world, people doing amazing things, that we rarely hear about. People seem to be programmed to want to hear bad news. Maybe it's to make us feel better about our own, it's crazy really or maybe, it's like when you come across something horrific, like a car crash and it's hard to look away.
When the news/media, reports on different events, they will always be pushing their own narrative, one that is in alliance with those who are funding them. Money at the end of the day, dictates what we hear. Money and influence. Most of the media and news channels, are funded by large corporations, pharmaceutical companies and those behind the curtains that pull the strings of the politicians, that we are told are in power. There is always an agenda, depending on what those in power wish to roll out.

At the moment, there is a desire to keep us divided, as they pit us against one another. Pushing out different narratives around covid, gender, race, refugees, war. It's 24/7. If you watch the news, you get to see what they want you to see. Who they want you to empathise with. Every now and again, some truth comes out, but it's always quickly buried as some event happens, to distract everyone. Usually involving a celebrity or two. It's crazy to me, this idea of celebrities and how invested people are in them. Especially now with social media. How influential these people are, with young people idolising over them. So many young women feeling pressured to look like these fake women, who have had so much surgery to fit the image, that is being sold to the masses.
It's all about the money! About control, about divide and conquer, so that they can keep us distracted. I have my own idea about what is on the cards, but who knows really. I like to focus more on my own life. On the things that I have control over. I don't let myself get too swept up, in the narratives that are being spun. I live a very full life with my girls, in a place where there are so many wonderful events taking. A creative hub, where art, music and healing are celebrated regularly. I really feel blessed with the life that have. With the reality I am living and that is where I will put my energy, not on the news or on the media, I will not give them any control over my life.
The news, sells fear and I want no part in it. I like to be informed, to hear all sides, but I am very careful about what I believe, what or whom I follow. I want to focus on bringing people together, helping everyone remember how alike we are, whilst also respecting our differences. Today, too make fear what is different to them, that fear can turn into hate and anger and then spill out into the streets and the news, well it feeds on that. When it spills out, it makes a great story.
We all have a choice, about where we place our energy, into fear or into compassion. If you follow the news, I believe you forget that choice even exists. Because fear is all consuming. You forget the power you have to create your own reality. At the end of the day, the news and the media are not our friends. If you want to bring value into your life, switch them off and go outside, invest in yourself, in nature. Reconnect with what it means to be a human, because the news desensitises us, it dehumanises us. It normalises violence and aggression, war and even genocide, just look at what is happening in Palestine, in Gaza, that is the power of the media.

Your writing is truly captivating and perfectly resonates with the concepts and ideas I have been immersed in over the past few days. (though I learned them through past years but lately I had them in my mind and you spoke my mind and made me happy)
Two days ago, I wrote lyrics about the media, division, and the powers that control everything (I will publish it later with a music performance). and also, Today I was reading about a philosophy that you also mentioned in your post: 'I like to focus more on the things that I have control over. I don't let myself get too swept up in the narratives that are being spun.' Though this sentence, along with your entire paragraph, is more complete, this concept is really important, and I noticed that it is called 'Stoicism.
I am happy to see clever people like you who understand what is really going on in the world and not choosing things blindly, I am facing similar things in my country Iran, some people in Europe or USA might think oh these problems are only in our country, but for example, the problem about Immigrants also exist in Iran, we have immigrants from other countries, we hear bad news about them, like in news they say: an Immigrant killed 5 Iranians in Tehran city, and later I see some of my people who became angry and say: we should destroy them all!! they are evil!! (all Immigrants good or bad) (just like what I heard from an American guy who was angry about some criminal immigrants and wished them all death (all Immigrants good or bad) (which I believe they were planned to do what they were doing to create hate between people))
and later I heard same news about Germany, Austria (an Asylum killed people) and I say what is going on? why suddenly these immigrants and asylums become crazy? it is like if someone send specific forces with missions to do these things. (just when big powers need to change governments and leaders to give reasons to a side)
Sorry I didn't mean to bring another news here, but I was just explaining how media affect our minds, to a point that people hate another race for crimes which happened to number of fingers, suddenly everyone label millions of people from another race, and they imagine the other race are zombies. this is what I am trying to tell people to know that there are good people between bad people in any country and race.

One part of my life I was (un)lucky to live in a country that was at war... During those times, I was able to listen to both sides of the news (the aggressor and the defender)... One was lying in one direction and the other was lying in their direction... And living in the middle of the conflict gave me a "privilege" to know the REAL truth... The one that wasn't told in any news...
So, all in all, I'm following your philosophy... Don't follow the news, trying to improve myself and life of people in my surroundings... If we were all doing that, nobody would pay attention to fake news but rather live their lives...

This is all so well said! The division, the fear, the attempt to emotionally destabilize us... and then a quick pivot to something frivolous as soon as anything too serious or real makes it into the news cycle. It's maddening.
I really liked the pictures you shared here too! The flowers between the trees pair perfectly with a journey of finding the truth and beauty that corporate influences spread by the media try to obscure from us. The last picture is powerful too, you can feel the unity in the room 😍 What was going on there?
