On Saturday we were woken up by a loud crashing sound inside the house.
So I jumped out of bed to see if someone was trying to break in... I slowly crept through each room in the dark. But couldn't see anything or anyone. So then I headed outside to see if I could see anyone out there...
Since I was only in my boxer shorts, when the sensor lights turned on my neighbours were probably thinking what the hell is going on haha.
But luckily I still couldn't see anything, so I went back to bed.
About 30min later we hear another loud bang and things falling over inside the house.
So this time we both got up to investigate.
At first I couldn't see anything just some fridge magnets knocked over. Then @terrybogan spotted the intruder hiding behind the bin!..
It was one of the brush tail possums that live in our back yard. These guys are very common here in Australia.
The possum was right near the front balcony door at the top of the staircase, so the plan was open the balcony door and try and spook him to run out the door. But this plan backfired and he went the other way down the staircase.
So now he's down stairs I opened up the front door but instead of him going out of it, he ended up climbing ontop of the door. Haha talk about awkward.
After many attempts of trying to get him off the top of the door and through it. He jumped down and went back onto the stair case. But this time he found a little gap to squeeze himself into and decided to make himself at home for the night.
After us chasing him around the house for over an hour he had won this battle and we went to bed. As we were very tired and thought we will just deal with it in the morning.
When we woke up he was still hiding in the crawl space. Scared and tired. We tried to feed him some banana that we put on the end of a stick and stuck it down the hole. But he was not interested.
My mum came over for a visit and we showed her where the possum was and she was like I'll grab him out..
Hahaha what!?!
I asked if she wanted some gloves for protection and before I could finish my sentence she had her arm down the hole.
You could hear a ruckus and mum was like oh wow he is scratching and biting me hahaha.
I said stop I'll get you some gloves.
But after this incident the possum made his way deeper below the stairs so we had to clear out all our belongings from under the stairs so we could get at him.
I have to say we have been putting off cleaning up our stuff from under the stairs so it was a great excuse to go through all the stuff and clean it out properly.
Once it was all empty mum went in with the quickness and caught this guy. He put up a bit of a fight but he was safely evicted from our house and back to the trees in our front yard!
Pretty cute little fella except the claws look like they could do some damage, didn't open it's mouth no comment about a bite or two. Well done to Mum!
@tipu curate
This guy was a young one. They grow a bit larger then him. They can get pretty violent when they are cornered. He did bite and scratch mum the first attempt she had at getting him out.
I'm still surprised that she insisted on catching it 😁

Any animal cornered becomes dangerous, not something nice to wake up to during the night.
Mum's always protect, our hero on more than one occasion !LUV

This lil guy was pretty cute!!.. but much prefer him outside and away from the house! Thankfully we had Mumsy on call !LOLZ
Definitely better him being an outside possum!
The little guy is cute, but should be outside. Hope you guys investigated how he was able to crash into your apartment. That will help you to prevent a re-occurrence.
Yes we found that he opened up a window. So the window is now secure 🙂

I thought it was a rat. Is it true that it's normal to see different wildlife in your country? Want to ask it to my uncle, but a bit hesitant since we were not close. Great to hear that you and your mom were able to safely remove the possum from your home.
Yes there is alot of beautiful wildlife here in Australia! And alot will live in your backyard. And some try and break into your house like this guy haha.

Hahaha, that is quite the night adventure. The possum is a cutie and probably quite scared of you. Funny that mom thought it would not bite, lol.
Haha it sure was a good Saturday night adventure 😀, he definitely would have been scared, but we got home out safely in the end. Mum is very brave

Possums are cute- but make a damn ruckus when in the roof cavity!
Haha yes they make so much noise when they are on or in the roof!
Oh wow thank you very much for the curation 🙏 I'm glad you enjoyed my blog 🙂
What a nice little animal, I'm glad that your mom was able to get him out safely :) Do they get inside often?

They are pretty cute 🙂 they don't come inside the house often but they do get inside the roof and make a lot of noise running around in there.
Thanks for the curation 🙏
