Berwick Upon Tweed, Northumberland, holds one of the most underrated and most unvisited historical trails in the country. For those who had not been very keen on exploring, may I invite you to see the a beach well hidden beyond the normal eye.
This beach had been the subject for the work of art of the late L.S. Lowry, one of England's most famous painter. Our humble town is not only a fave for painters, it has been a favourite for poets and literary authors like Charles Dickens. Yep, you got that right. The hotel that Dickens had been frequenting still stands today (The King's Arms Hotel).
Now, going back to the main topic of this entry. The Sands at Berwick Upon Tweed is part of the famous L.S Lowry Trail, a collection of spots around the town that had been immortalised on his paintings. This quiet and hidden spot had been a favourite of mine ever since I had chanced upon it on idyllic afternoon. I was drawn to the aura of mystery of this beach that can be seen whilst you walk down the lengthy Berwick Pier (another spot in the trail).
I was drawn to how relaxing and calming this beach was, a good mix of sand and stone and ample open field leading to it. After walking some time on this beach, I had been rejuvenated and refreshed and it seemed all my worries were gone.
I do hope that most of you can visit our little town here in the Northeastern England and also, can experience what I had experienced while basking in the cool breeze from the North Sea.
