This Saturday was intense: a strong sun accompanied us to the House of the tenth Celestino García in the Vélez neighborhood in the city of Pinar del Río, about four blocks from the main avenue, the road to Luis Lazo, at about 2:30 in the afternoon.
Although we arrived with a lot of sweat and hot as the sun itself, I tell you it was worth it. My husband Julio, our son and I arrived just as they were announcing the guateque over the microphones.
A necessary parenthesis: while I was there, I received a message from the students of the University of Pinar del Rio, from the Pedagogy-Psychology Bachelor's Degree in Education. They talk about the fact that this Sunday is the World Autism Awareness Day.
In addition, they made an invitation to participate on Monday, April 3 at 8:30 a.m. at the pedagogical headquarters of the University to the experiential workshop "Paint your heart blue" for all those who wish to attend.
So, for all those who are in Pinar del Río, I extend an invitation to learn much more about this topic and to be able to understand and help the deep and blue world of those who surround us and live with Autism, which is not a disease but a condition.
Once the message of the psychology students had been socialized, we enjoyed ourselves at the Casa de la décima, where we met wonderful friends. Lorenzo Suárez and Montano, both with colloquial language, invited us to enjoy the afternoon.
With joy I met Yaimara Ramirez and her beautiful girl and from far away on the stage was already Luciano Lorenzo, both members of the duo "Between dots and tunes". There were several decimistas who engaged in spicy or hilarious controversies.
Beautiful women expressed their feelings in endechas. The spinel was in jubilation, reborn like the phoenix after the misfortune suffered by the Ranchón de Montano with cyclone Ian. Finally, it is on its feet to keep alive in the westernmost region the Cuban Punto, declared intangible heritage of humanity in 2017.
They invited to the stage the "Diamante pinareño" a gentleman who made the whole audience dance, even the neighbors, I particularly had not danced like that for many years and with great surprise my husband joined me who took the applause.
Something special happened, they gave the microphone to a boy with Down Syndrome: what beautiful tenths he dedicated to his girlfriends on duty, the protagonist of the novel they are watching at home "Paloma" and also to "The daughter of the Mariachi" and as if that were not enough in his special language he sang a metrical composition of verses in which the pairs rhyme.
Here shone the human values of the project, love, equity and the right of all to express their art. Between dots and tunes he made the voices of Luciano and Yaimara shine, who delighted the audience with emotional tunes.
Then she sang some songs as soloists and a medley of tunes that had to be extended at the request of the audience who enjoyed it. There was Mexican music, because in the good guateques also the rancheras have their space, two interpreters came from far away places to give their songs. Lorenzo introduced me as President of the Jesús Orta Ruiz Honorary Chair of the University of Pinar del Río and asked me to declaim a few tenths of my own.
The indiscreet rain sounds
its music on the roof,
an angel has come down today
on a secret mission.
Wet a concrete kiss
and his wings of passion
become fire, the occasion
where the freezing drizzle
was desperate
to kill an illusion.
The birds of sadness
flew in stampede
and the rain interrupted
by the angel with certainty
washed in sublime beauty
the bodies they had loved.
Through that wet roof
shone the sun of madness
that warmed with tenderness
the coldest winter.
The afternoon was a gift for us, we enjoyed with family and friends and the good Cuban point. Little by little I am cultivating in my son the love for traditions and art in general so that he can appreciate and enjoy it. There really is no Saturday without sun, neither without poetry.
