Saturday of literary event

in Weekend Experiences4 months ago (edited)

This weekend I had an incredible experience that I had been waiting for for a long time. Writing is my great passion, so when I was offered to participate in the narrative category at the meeting of municipal literary workshops this Saturday, I decided to go for it without hesitation.

We started at around 10 in the morning, first the protocols as always. The cultural numbers began with a traditional trova song and then moved on to a small poetry recital. At around 11 am everything was ready to begin with the readings in competition. The first hour was dedicated exclusively to poetry, where I had already participated in another story in which I still have to know the verdict because of course poetry is another of my loves.

The first part was filled with constructive criticism and really of all kinds, where we tried to add or subtract to the works in competition so that they would gain greater force or poetic flight. The authors' reactions varied from those who accepted the criticism, those who took it without a very good face, to those who defended their work tooth and nail.

When the narrative part arrived, I got a little nervous because although I had a lot of confidence in my text, I was clear that my reading was betraying me at times. And after listening to several stories, most of them very good without a doubt, and finally, almost at 1:30 pm, it was my turn. My work, belonging to a series of stories that I have been working on for some time, touches on a genre such as magical realism, something unusual in this type of literary competition. After my reading, I actually received fewer corrections than I expected. The story itself had been convincing.

It was an incredible experience, beyond the exhaustion of spending so many hours sitting down to be able to do my reading, and the simple fact of showing the public and the jury something that I am so passionate about, such as narrative, and even more so from such a peculiar perspective, and that it was accepted so that all effort was completely deserved. Now the tense moment has passed and all that remains is to wait for the results, let's cross our fingers.!

Already the fact of participating I see it as a great achievement. I used to enjoy attending these events, but it's really been a long time since I've done so.
Have you shared any narrative and poetry here on Hive?

I haven't really tried sharing poetry yet but I think I haven't found the right community yet.
