Productive Weekend

I only have one day for rest from my work and Weekends for me is just a weekend and sometimes, I work even harder on Sundays to keep up with the t things that I could not do during weekdays.

This recent weekend was very productive for me; I went to my workplace on Saturday and it's pretty normal, boring, actually boring and nothing much happened to take pictures with.

The day before, my mother asked for our help in gathering more cassava stalks to plant; We helped her plant on her farm on November 2, It was a holiday in the Ph, but I still had to report for work and I only rendered a few hours there.

In some countries, farmers are rich but most farmers here in my place, including us are poor; We do the manual work especially now that people choose to work in factories rather than on farms and the salaries are too expensive for us to afford. And when it's a time of harvest, prices of crops drop and we don't get a chance to pay our loans.

Sunday came and I only washed the uniforms to secure the clothes I had to wear on the coming weekdays and we headed to our farm to collect cassava stalks.

Sadly, some parts of our farm seem to be a failure Only a few grew and are stunted too. Weeds overgrew crops even if we just paid someone to get rid of them just a few months ago.

Our crops were still too young so I asked my husband to find teh farm my mother said was her friend's but the road was blocked fortunately, we found someone who was still harvesting his cassava crops and asked them if we could buy from them.

They said yes and we started our work.

It was 10 am and teh sun was scorching hot. I and my mother, geared with our jackets to protect us from teh hot sun, and our machetes, went to the field to gather stalks and brought them uphill towards a shaded place.

All I thought about was to get the work done and ignore the phone; my husband is not into our work, he searched for his phone but he left it at home and decided to use mine instead. There is so much to take photos of but I let it pass. We did not come prepared and we only brought a liter of water which is too little for us three. I don't usually work under teh sun and my body got shocked by the work I did and I got weary so easily.

I could hear the pulse in my head so I relaxed for a bit and we decided to go home to take our lunch.

Afterlunch Dou

After lunch, my husband took me and my Ma back to the farm but he did not join us anymore because he had a basketball to referee too.
After some time, we moved to another place to be near where the stalks were piled, making our work easier. The sun has shifted its positioning in the sky giving a great shadow on the we place we are at.

We both did everything, doing as fast as we could to the point that I got so tired that I wanted to complain yet I could not find my voice to say it out loud. in the back of my mind, I wanted to finish the work because I could not help her during my work days.

We packed the cassava tubes into the sacks that we brought and finally, we had 9 of them. One more to go and we would be off but my hand and back is sore and I know my Ma feels more pain than I do so I tricked my mind and focused on our work.

Those were teh sacked cassava tubes we finished downhill

A barren tree with dark clouds a leaves

Ahhh, relief! We did ten sacks, and then only I thought of holding my phone. As I was taking photos , I noticed that the clouds in the sky were getting dark andit looks like iit's going to rain soon. Good thing I brought an umbrella with me and and as soon as we reached the hut where the owner lives, rain started pouring and we hurried our way home.

The rain must have eyes and it saw us to let us finish our work.

We went by foot, walking as fast as we could but to no avail, the rain poured even more; we stopped by on a car wash shop for a while and waited for the rain to slow down; my umbrella was too small for two people to share and both of us were wet on each arms.

When teh rain slowed down a bit, we continued our way home, and stopping by on a bakery to buy bread, we were both starving and I was really looking forward to having a hot cup of coffee at home.

The rains stopped for a while and then when we reached home, just when I stepped on the door, I heard water drizzling in the roof and thanked God he let us reach home before releasing lots of rain from the sky. And I feel so blessed.

My worried husband called to check where we were and was happy to know we were at home already. He thought I did not bring an umbrella and we would probably get sick getting wet after a very hot day in the farm.

I was very tired that sitting and resting my back felt so great.

It was a productive weekend, yet very tiring too; I'm just happy I got to help my Ma with her work and escape the rain and I would do it again for her. I did not spend the day with my kids but it's still worth it.

Cassava is my parents favorite, but they don't have it now sis. Busyness is really with you sis, I hope your cassava will grow more.

Wow! Nagtatanim ka din Ng cassava sis. Medyo matagal na Ako di naka visit sa tanim naming cassava. Sana okay Ang tubo non.

Better check it sis,to be sure the weeds did not overgrow your crops.
It's a very tiring thing to do, and I am hoping for blessings from above thru it sis. naka loan pa naman yun ngayon.
