I'm really digging this running poem, comprised of haiku that a bunch of haijin are writing, in response to the most excellent @bananafish's Holiday Special Haiku Contest.
We have English writers and Spanish writers so far, some posting only in their first language, others posting their haiku along with a translation of their own work. In this post I present all the haiku submitted so far, and in both languages. If you would like to show your support to our haijin, find links to their posts here.
@marcorricardi started us off with the first haiku, and we each added one to the one before it. I've left the authors' names out of our renge so as not to interrupt the flow of the poem, but have provided those names below.
Any translations that I had to provide myself have come from an online translation tool, https://www.collinsdictionary.com/us/translator. Please note: I don't speak a lick of Spanish! I have no doubt some of my translations could use work. Please feel free to offer suggestions, and I will gratefully edit this post to include them.
One interesting observation: Marco has often taught us that it takes fewer syllables to write haiku in English. If you compare the number of syllables in the English versions to those in their Spanish counterparts, this effect is easily seen.
With no further ado, I am so happy to bring you our renga so far! Please join us!
masks
in our hearts
party lights
Human bonds
defrosting the chasm of
quarantine
walls crumble
when pure love beckons
none too strong or tall
Light finesse
linked hugs,
final vaccine
Be responsible.
Life and light for all,
it's in your hands
Curled up.
Well hope ignites today
and illuminates more.
Light between friends.
One offers, one takes.
Party time.
Light to see
the loved stars.
It's Christmas!
Bells are ringing
in the surroundings...
"Ding, dong. Ding, dong."
The world sounds
enlightens souls
Happy omen
Believing hands
treasure the Light.
Jesus was born.
las mascarillas
en nuestros corazones
luces de fiesta
Lazos fraternos
gotea la gélida
cuarentena
paredes se desmoronan
cuando el amor puro llama
ninguno demasiado fuerte o alto
Finura de luz
abrazos enlazados,
vacuna final
Sé responsable.
Vida y luz para todos,
está en tus manos
Acurrucada.
Bien la esperanza enciende hoy
e ilumina más.
Luz entre amigos.
Uno ofrece, otro toma.
Tiempo de fiesta.
Luz para ver
las estrellas amadas.
¡Es Navidad!
Se oyen campanas
en los alrededores...
"Din, don. Din, don."
Suena el mundo
ilumina las almas
Feliz augurio
Manos creyentes
atesoran la Luz.
Nació Jesús.

Thanks for the work of getting the Renga together. It did worked out in an spectacular way. All the elements of new normality plus the added ideas of what used to be normal entwined gives us the picture of this year's festivities.
I think the same. We are like a choir singing together different lines, harmonized.
Each one was absolutely free to decide how to write their haiku, but the overall result makes a very coherent sense. This happens every time with renga, it's incredible!
Un hermoso trabajo, un enlace con mensaje de esperanza para todos @owasco
A beautiful job, a link with a message of hope for all @owasco
Hello! I really appreciate what you did here. Haikus bilingual comparative is interesting. Reading this Renga comes to be a satisfactory moment , too. I loved its ending.
Thank you very much, @owasco, for your lovely compilation and translation!
We also thank you for the kind words you have reserved for us. In a simple way, we try to be the cause of something beautiful, but it is you participants who do the bulk of the work.
It is also clear that the renga works very well as an overall poem. I find it has a strong internal consistency and, as @bertrayo says, it conveys a definite feeling of what the holidays have been like in this difficult year
