Hi all 👋🏻
As promised, hereby my TRAIN journey back. From the Madrid Atocha train station to Málaga Maria Zambrano Train Station, Spain.
On Tuesday 15 March 2022.
And of course a walk from the hotel before… and the drive home in bad weather 😉 couldn’t be missed in my post.
We went with the train on the left.
Today I want to share with you my Second AVE train ride (ever), it’s a Long Distance High Speed Train and this time it was with another AVE train. The train was older and a bit more wobbly… hahahaha
If you missed my first AVE train journey from a few days ago, you can read that Journey in this post!
Let me take you along on our Journey 😁
When we left Tuesday the hotel after Lunch we found the cars, streets and buildings around us all covered in Sahara dust, a storm that went over all of Spain on Monday/ Tuesday and is still going strong towards the northern countries.
After half an hour walk we reached this crossing.
With a view of the Atocha Train Station.
We walk down…
And enter the train station through the door.
We find this enormous hall, with a botanical garden inside of it. How wonderful is this?
I loved it. We decided to walk a bit around it and wait on the benches for about half an hour to go further, as we were a little early 😉
Let me show you the botanical garden:
It has a few paths through it. And you see people resting/ waiting everywhere. Luckily it wasn’t to busy at this hour.
Close up of some beautiful Monstera leaves… I have a plant like this at home. (It’s well traveled btw 😎 it went with us as hand luggage from Spain to Malta and back to Spain again with our moves… in an airplane ✈️ hahaha it was a baby from my large monstera I couldn’t take, so it was small with only 3 leaves🌱)
A little further I see these pigeons eating seeds.
Not many, but a few flowers I discover.
And more beautiful green leaves.
Now we are sitting down, waiting. If I look up I see the roof’s structure.
Next to us more plants 🥰 I love green plants 🪴
Suddenly a bird lands on one of the lamps. It’s looking curiously around and a little bit later it flies off again.
It is getting a little darker, although it is mid day.
It’s time to go and find out what platform we need to go to. On our way out of the botanical garden I spot these beautiful plants.
We walk towards the large sign at the end of this hall.
Somehow I can’t take a good photograph of it, but it tells us our 16:35 h train will leave from floor 1.
So we need to go up some escalators.
Holding on to our bag, so it won’t roll back 😉
As I saw downstairs a statue, and we still have some time, we went up 1 too many escalators to view the statue. With the garden as backdrop.
As we walk towards the escalator on the other side to go down, we are high up in the middle of the hall. And see this view. Believe me, it is rather large. And this is not even the side where the trains are.
If you ever find yourself in Madrid, do visit, it is pretty amazing.
As we go down I can see clearly the structures of this hall. Its architectural features are beautiful.
One more look towards the garden from this side as we go down one escalator.
We go through security…
And the tickets will be checked next, there is a small line. So nothing to worry about. We are still early enough for me to take some photographs of the train.
As we go down an escalator again I take a photograph of the trains waiting next to me.
Our train.
I walked towards the front/ back at this moment.
Aren’t they pretty!
We are inside… our seats in row 8.
View in front of us. We are this time a little closer to the tv screen and can follow the journey better.
My look outside as we are leaving. Do you notice? The window is different and it is really hard to photograph outside of it. It is a mirror…
A little further there is more light… but still hard to photograph.
Leaving the train station of Madrid Atocha.
And we are out…
The train rails are joining slowly.
The end of Madrid city. The weather is bad with the Sahara dust storm we can not see very far.
We are passing by another train.
And bye bye… it’s gone soon. We are speeding up fast as we leave Madrid.
Next I try to photograph the landscape as I did on my first journey, but the type of window and weather is making it hard this time.
It’s 16:48h now and we reached the 271 km/h speed. The fastest I saw was 294 km/h on this journey from Madrid to Málaga.
Notice the hand written 3… hahaha 🤣
Out side the weather is getting worse, the lines on the outside of the window is mud… from the rain and Sahara dust/sand that is coming down.
We pass by some really beautiful houses.
Stations we stop at…
Then the weather gets darker and it is impossible to look out anymore, even though it is still daytime.
I will focus my next photos on the inside of the train.
Here our journey.
Next stop is Puente Genil. We are traveling at 289 Km/h.
We just left the Puente Genil Station and our next stop will be Antequera.
We just left Antequera station. It is 19:06h at this time. Not much longer anymore.
The view next to us looks like it is going on foreverrrrrrrr 😎
We are slowing down for Málaga… almost there.
We made it 🥳
Málaga María Zambrano Train station.
As we walk by… bye bye train, thank you for the journey 👋🏻😊
We walk towards the side exit…
As it is rather late and our journey is not finished yet… we go up to the next floor and have some dinner first before we jump in a taxi 🚕
In the restaurant there are large movie posters on display. Above us.
After dinner we walk towards the exit of this large train station and shopping/restaurant area.
Down the escalator again.
Towards the exit.
On the doors it says: Bienvenido a Málaga/ Welcome to Málaga.
Ooo it is raining mud… in Málaga. No taxis, there is a line with waiting people.
Normally when you look this way, left outside the train station it is full of taxis. Looks like a busy evening for them.
We wait a while…
After the taxi dropped us off close to our car, we jump in and drive home. A 1 hour journey…
Here we are leaving Málaga.
We go the first part over the motorway… the visual is not great to say the least. The sky is still orange from the dust storm.
The photographs are not great, but the weather was bad.
We are going through some tunnels, you can now see how muddy the rain is. And our windows… even though the wipers go and we try to clean it.
A little further along our journey the only way we can see now is by putting up high beams… very bad visual. But we are traveling on the toll roads now and the traffic is not much.
Going through the toll…
Beep… and it lets us through. For the last time. Almost home.
Finally we are home, much later than expected but we made it 😊😁
Hope you enjoyed looking through my photographs and reading my post about this journey I had Tuesday on the AVE going back home.
Still, we enjoyed traveling in the AVE… hope to do it again soon. 😎 Madrid is such an amazing city. I will post our explorations of it soon 😉
Thank you so much for looking, and reading. And if you liked my post, an upvote or re-blog is always welcome 🙏🏻
Have a great day all 😎👋🏻

What a great Terminus! It looks very much like Kings Cross in the UK. Those trains look like Duck Billed Platypus!
Awesome post , I love all things trains!
Thank you so much @nathen007 😊
Never been to Kings Cross so far, so can’t compare, but if you say so 😎 I believe you.
Yes they surely do… they were so different than the AVE train I had on Saturday going to Madrid.
The Terminus is just stunning. Although the weather appears to be pleasant while you're on your way, Train riding is quite enjoyable on those vehicles!
Thank you for spreading the word about this wonderful post!
Thank you so much @kirlos 😊
It was a very enjoyable experience and train ride. Hope to go again soon 😎
With pleasure…
hmm
I can't believe it is a terminus, wow! Fantastic!
Thank you so much @rimicane 😊 it was a surprise to see…
