At times, when life unfolds to us, it just happens like an illusion. Then we begin to ask ourselves, is it not that person who held such positions before? Was he not the rich and powerful man of yesterday? What has befallen him on earth? All of that is part of life.
The position we find ourselves in today is never forever; all of these were just limited to a certain period of time. If well used, then I would say it might withstand the test of time.
When I was in the early stages of the farming business. I underwent a training that should be scheduled for a maximum of 6 months and it's all over. That was the agreement between my mentor and my boss. Their conversation about something got me wondering about my personality.
Yes sir, This boy looks like a Yahoo guy. He is so fresh. My boss said,
I am not sure he would be able to do this work. He added.
Seun! I know who I am introducing to you. My mentor tried to convince him.
If he doesn't deliver then you can just let go of him.
I smiled. My boss looked me in the eyes. So I faced down immediately.
Deep down I knew he didn’t know who I was but already judging a book by its cover. What's left was to prove him wrong and that became a mission I withheld till the very end.
With time my boss came to notice my full potential, he sensed I wasn’t the lazy type and I am also self-confident and cautious about my actions. My six months of training went beyond six months and got over a year.
At some point, he called me to ask if I could be a worker under him and get paid. But I politely declined the offer and told him I would be establishing a farm of my own in due time. He was happy with my decision and also pushed forward to see me excel in it.
During my stay at his farm, I met with some other farmers around. I never knew I was being studied by one of them. I was just doing my thing my own way. Not until one of them called my attention one day. He proposed that I make a visit to his farm, just to see how he organized his farm and also to increase my learning space.
I accepted with appreciation. And ever since then, he has become my second boss. I have frequented his farm countless times and did the best I could to assist him.
One day, he surprised me with his words. However, I didn’t take them to heart because it sounded like an appraisal to me and I won't allow that to get to me. He had been trying to breed for a customer who already advanced 80% of the payment to him. He would get some feed and also buy the Broodstock for breeding. He was fully prepared then tried the first time but failed.
He called me to rant about the results of the production, all of the eggs were white. Then he made another attempt, this time he was even more careful and cautious of the first mistake he realized he made. We hoped the result would come out fine, but it didn’t.
At this point, he was getting discouraged already. He has done it for the sixth time now and no success. But he still has to deliver to his customers. He called me for an outing someday when I showed up. We went to visit another farmer's farm to outsource for a customer.
On our way back, he wasn’t free but kept complaining and ranting bitterly about his failed attempts in his production which happens rarely before then.
I tried to think about all of the processes he took while breeding, and then I asked calmly.
Sir! When you inject the fish with the fish hormones do you add saline to it?
He responded yes!
Then I realized I had a similar experience for some time when I used that method and failed countless times.
Sir, I would have suggested you make use of the pure hormone instead of mixing it with saline. I added.
He looked at me and smiled. Okay. I will do that. He responded with a doubtful voice.
The next production he did, he didn’t use saline. Then the hormone alone. The next day he called me and said He was so grateful for my idea and suggestion, then he added that it's great to have wise people around him.
I knew that was getting out of hand for me. So I closed the conversation with gratitude to God.
Since then he has been calling me along with him to places he wants to farm or consult. I try my best to assist him. But he would tell me,
Qudus, the reason I tag you along with me is to apply your wisdom in whatever I do as mistakes. He still took me out yesterday and said the same thing.
