Verifying The Unknown

“It would be my duty to take good care of you, as my only child left." Mrs. Drey was so afraid of losing her only child as the twin brother had disappeared unknowingly to anyone.

Fred and Frank were growing up as children to embrace their future. As they walked through the path to the forest very close to their abode, Fred was busy discussing the inconclusive discussion. Frank was supposed to reply, but suddenly Fred could not find Frank. He had disappeared to where no one knows. Fred tried hard to search and believed Frank was pranking him, but to his surprise, he went home alone, crying bitterly.

“What's the matter, and where's your brother?” Her mom was so bothered.
Fred was fidgeting while talking, just like a stammered being. He tried to talk, but the cry had gone deep inside his marrow.
“Hope it is not what I'm thinking?” Her mom guessed.
“Frank disappeared on our way coming, and I tried to search for him, but he was nowhere to be found." Fred managed to speak up.
"Ah, I'm doomed. Why is it that I did not see this coming?' She was worried as tears rolled down her cheek.
“Mum, what do we do now?” Fred asked, being a grown-up child of 14.
Her mom endeavored to speak about what she had done before but stopped as she said, "Please, son, I will get a solution to it so as not to lose you; I'm returning.”.
"But Mom, I need to know the reason for my twin brother's disappearance. "He was ready to know the truth, but then her mom, who was still in grief, said, “Some secrets are better left untold as they might harm eventually.”.
“I'm not a baby any longer and would love to fight for my twin brother." Fred was worried about his brother's disappearance.

As minutes turned into hours, hours into days, and days into weeks, the thought of his twin brother kept him in a distracted manner. His mom, on the other hand, was looking for a way for his only child to forget about what had happened. “Please, son, just forget what had happened, and let's move on," she said.
“I will forget but will always remember my twin brother. Remember that we had always walked and done things together. Now that I'm alone, it would be difficult to forget, mum”, water was dropping from Fred's face, which in turn made his mum fall into another phase of tears.

Fred went to the spot where his brother had disappeared and searched for a clue. He searched around and stumbled into a rock. He sat on the rock while thinking about how he always scolded his brother and how they always laughed together. This made him burst into laughter. He began to laugh before he realized that he was alone. He stood up and rested one of his legs on the rock. As he wanted to remove his leg, he saw graffiti that said, “One dropped, one standing. Reasons below”. He ignored what he saw while he took his leave from the position.

Two days later, he went to his mom's room, and his eyes gazed at his dad's box. He carried the box, and on it was a note scribed, “Two living, one is a must, until time tells the future of the second. Reasons below the rock”. He wanted to open the box, but after seeing this, he immediately remembered what was graffiti and headed to the nearby forest. It was early evening when he left. He saw the rock and somehow pushed the rock as if it were just a little one. He saw a written note under the rock that said, “It was an oath taken by your dad and mum when they were looking for a child.”,
“Are you ready to continue with your reading?” A strange voice spoke out as he was reading the note. Fred looked around but saw no one. Fear gripped his heart, and his heart started beating so fast. “Who are you?” He ordered.
“Do you wish to see me?” The strange voice came again.
"Yes," Fred answered, shivering as his heart was right in his palm.
He received a tap behind him as he jumped up, turning to the reverse side of his view. It was just as if the ground should open for him to enter. He saw a man in a white gown and his twin brother beside him. He began to cry, saying, “Why did you vanish, leaving me behind? Come, let's go home.”.
“He can't go with you. He's not who he was anymore”, the man standing tall said
“But he's my twin brother. We were meant to be together at all times," Fred replied.
“If you are eager to know more, then you have to take an oath," the man said.
“I can't take any oath that would endanger my life in the future," Fred said while in tears.
"You have to know now that some secrets are left untold to save the lives of the family," the man in a white gown said as he disappeared with Frank.

Fred fell on the floor and woke up in the middle of the night. He was still in fear and ran home immediately. Meanwhile, his mom was weeping when he got home, thinking he had lost her only child to the oath she took with her husband. Seeing Fred relieved her, but then Fred could not say what he saw to his mom. He kept mute and only told his mom, “No problem, mom.”.

Damn!!!
Oaths can be very crazy. I’m glad that I at least watched movies that teaches us not to take oaths when I was much younger

it is dangerous to take oath.

I really felt for Fred, but still, yet, his mother should have opened up to him. What a dangerous decision for the mother to have taken an oath with her late husband.

I was scared to read your story 😅, at the end you left me intrigued, what happened next, what really happened? 😅

Indeed, some are better left unsaid as curiosity they say kills the cat. An interesting read, thank you for sharing.
