Karissa’s mum banged on her daughter’s door effortlessly.
Karissa!!! Open this door. I don’t want you to hurt yourself in there, the poor woman screamed after her daughter ran into the room, crying so hard because her father broke a bad news to her.
Her father, Dr Lawson is a man who wants what he wants and no matter how big or powerful you are, he will never listen to anyone because he’s a man of his words.
Karissa ran to her room, sitting on her bed when she remembered what her dad said three years ago when she was about to get promoted to Year Ten in her high school.
Karissa, I said I want you to be a medical doctor but no. You have decided to do what you want by joining the art department when I want you to be in science department. I will make you regret this, she remembered that day when her dad walked out on she and her mum because she joined the art class instead of science as her dad has always wanted.
Karissa hit her pillow on the bed multiple times, weeping effortlessly because she feels her dad isn’t a good man and does not want her to follow her dreams.
Mummy leave my door!!! What else does dad want? I told him I want to be an actress but he went behind my back to register some science courses for my promotional examination to the university. That’s bot fair!!!!,! Karissa was yelling and saying what she felt.
The worse about the whole thing is that Karissa’s promotional examination will happen in a month which is approximately thirty days. Her dad didn’t care about how she will cover up five science subjects in the space of a month but all he wanted was for her to study medicine in the University.
Why are you screaming? I told you three years ago that I want you to be a medical doctor but you didn’t listen. I said you were going to regret it but I think you felt I was joking, Dr Lawson yelled at her after he heard her yell at her mum.
Karissa’s mum sat on the fence since she didn’t know who to support. She pleaded with her husband and her kids.
For three days, Karissa didn’t have a word with her father for what he has just done. It’s so unbelievable for her to pass an unplanned examination that has five different new subjects.
Karissa, this is Mr Fred. He’s a good science teacher and had taught in three different schools. I employed him to be your teacher so you can pass your forthcoming examination, Mr Fred stretch his hand to Karissa for a hand shake and right there, the two of them became good friends.
There was no day break for Karissa. She made sure that she read everyday and night of her life. There’s no choice for her now. She can’t afford to pay for an examination form so she has to do what her father wants.
Karissa knows that it’s a must for her to take the examinations seriously because this is her chance to be a University student. It’s either she sinks or swim.
Karissa read to the point that her books became her pillow. Most times while reading, she sleeps off but never stop trying. One day, Dr Lawson entered his daughter’s room in the midnight after she fell asleep while reading.
Who ever thinks Karissa will be this serious?, he thought in his mind while he covered her body with a duvet, off the lights and tidied up her room.
When the examination started, Karissa comes back home with a smile and if she’s being asked about the examination, it’s simple is always her response.
Dr Lawson who registered the examination for her still didn’t inform her when he was about to go check her result. He got to the cafe thinking his daughter may not do well and has planned to blame her for not listening to him for the whole of three years when he has been telling her to convert to the science department.
Surprisingly, Karissa passed all examinations. He jumped up at the cafe. So many people looked at him like, what’s wrong with this man but they all didn’t understand the short timeframe his daughter had to read for the examination.
He stopped by at Jendol supermarket to buy some gifts for his daughter. Karissa peeped through the window and saw her dad coming with in with gifts.
Dad, whose birthday is it?, Karissa asked when her dad came in. He didn’t say a word but showed her a printed copy of her promotional examination results. She screamed happily and her mothet ran downstairs to see what was happening.
Yes! Karissa passed the examination and she has the chance to be a medical doctor again.
